Does anyone know if there’s a way to find out which MOT station actually carried out the latest MOT test on a car if you don’t have the certificate?
I’ve just bought a car via this forum, sold as being roadworthy and with a current MOT until December, but the MOT is clearly the most bent MOT I’ve ever seen in many years of working with ropey old cars. The chassis legs are virtually non-existent, half of the floor is made of fibreglass, the other half is wafer thin, rotten steel and there are structural parts of the car which are actually glued together. It’s clearly been like this for a number of years.
When I put the car on our ramp to inspect it, it would have folded in half had I not stopped when I head the jacking points fail and re-load it with some bracing in place.
First things first, whoever gave it an MOT needs to be struck off as this is far beyond a joke...

You can do it online - go to the www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ MoT history check site and type in the reg. no. then view the MoT history and click the link saying 'view test location'. That will prompt you to enter the V5C reference number and, once done, will display the details of the place that did the MoT.

If you have the V5C, then you can see where the test was carried out on: www.check-mot.service.gov.uk enter the reg number, look under MOT history and you can click on view test centre and enter the V5C 12 digit number, you can also view the test certificate too. curse word, too late!

As per above comments as long as you have v5 you can get access to details on the mot history checker.
Sad it was purchased via the forum, I always feel I can trust ads in the classifieds here more than general public sites.

It's happened to a friend of mine who bought a W115 Merc off here many moons ago.

Very underhand, but I’ve found dishonesty seems to be rearing its head everywhere within the classic car world I recently sold a fantastic Little car via here It’s caused me a huge headache over the last few weeks due to the buyer not doing the log book I should not of trusted him , the car was collected by a transport company whilst I was as work The wife gave all the paperwork to them After I agreed with the buyer on the phone he would fill the log book out.....my mistake I should of known better The car is currently running around Yorkshire without insurance It’s currently in the hands of Yorkshire county constabulary Sad fact now TRUST nobody Hope you get some closure on the car

Was it a regular poster or one of those wandering heroes that's doing us all a favour? search for cortina in the classifieds - funnily enough there seems to be two that have sold in the classifieds in recent months that have been lower standard than expected by the buyers and both have been resold but i'm guessing this relates to the purple one.

Well..... Yes, interesting this. When I bought this forum.retro-rides.org/post/2626108/thread and took it for MOT , the new test centre owner where the car had been tested refused to test, as the chassis number on the car was not even the same as on the records...... Obviously it had been tested by a mate, and to be honest, after the work I put into it, it was a safer car, but whoever tested it before should have been punched in the face too.

Two minutes of idle breakfast sleuthing brought me to the same conclusion. In fairness to the seller it appears to have been bought pre motd and sold with the same mot however when I checked the mot checker the suspect car is motd til february

If the car is as bad as you say I’d be asking for your money back or small claims court will be the way to go

This is the car in question and it was me who sold it. I bought it, drove it for a couple of months and sold it.

If the car is as bad as you say I’d be asking for your money back or small claims court will be the way to go I had it on my ramp and thought it looked pretty average for a 40 year old car. I can't say I noticed any loss of structural integrity when I jacked it up to change the wheels. I wasn't aware that it was in such a bad way, I bought the car, used it for a couple of months, found that I didn't like it all that much and decided to sell it. It was mot'd when I bought it and it was still on the same mot when I sold it.

You Proport yourself to be a business with experience of ‘classic and retro‘, but you can’t tell from the pics In the advert alone that that’s a typical old ford hanging onto an MOT by the skin of its teeth through successive years tarting up to keep it going? Especially given the price?

Theres 2 videos of the seller openly admitting the car is a, for want of a better phrase, a pile of fox picture curse word. Also, a 42 year old Ford would be like checkin out a 42 year old on tinder then rockin up to nando's an finding out shes Susan boyle

I always think that pictures are great at hiding stuff. The under the hood shot in particular looks very rusty.
Indeed if you zoom in on the photos after clicking on them. The front valance is probably constructed of a racing post from 1987 and half a motorists discounts worth of pog.
On the bonnet shot, the left front inner down the bonnet edge looks very crusty, and there is a corner piece has rotted away. I loved the look of it, but for 2k an old classic Ford says two things, do you like sweeping up piles of rust, and do you like welding?

Obviously I haven’t seen the car So that obviously will be for the buyer and you to discuss No problem for me This thread will no doubt be locked very soon I suspect

Especially given the price? That's exactly what I would expect, but it's nothing like that. It clearly hasn't had a genuine MOT in many, many years.
