Yes thanks for that - we made do with spotting on recent mini break! Wonder if they are all owned by one person or also do storage of interesting exhibits for other people. Eclectic mix of stuff for sure, is the first sign of age seeing cars from growing up in a museum ? James Or seeing cars you've owned yourself when they weren't terribly old.

Eclectic mix of stuff for sure, is the first sign of age seeing cars from growing up in a museum ? James The collection was started and owned by the owner of the estate. Legend has it his favourite car To drive was the white escort. He passed a few years back now iirc. Yeah, there was a info board on the escort. It said it was his second favourite after the Mini Cooper. Quite a few of the cars had been donated to the collection, the Viceroy was donated by the family of someone who had won it as part of a ‘spot the ball’ competition (iirc). I guess that explains some of the eclectic-ness Lotus sent engineers to Caister a few years back to take apart and measure the Lotus 33, they offered to restore it at the same time, they were allowed to take all the measurements etc but the offer of restoration was declined, or so I was told by one of the volunteers.

Never thought i would see the gop-eyed freak that is the scorpio in a museum! Do love the fact that they have the foresight to preserve yesterdays run of the mill stuff and all somewhere i had never heard of before. Thanks for subjecting the family to it on our behalf!!

Here you go Pete - Here's one that you can add directly to your collection - rare survivor and will only increase in value has they become very scarce - not for me though regardless of how low the mileage is or its rarity www.kgfclassiccars.co.uk/vehicles/2759/

Really nice to to see such an eclectic collection not just in makes / models but in the varying degrees / conditions that vehicles can be found in - from concours to road going - aged patina to incomplete barn find PS - No decent collection is worth its salt if it doesn't have a 'Jowett'

Last time I went there the treewalk was still in! Amazing to think that you could sail a ship up to the watergate as closely as the 1500's... anyway, thats off topic (a bit). Always had an eclectic mix of vehicles there including the 'racing cars' from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for many years. Great to see the more modern (but rapidly vanishing) stuff in there. I feel a trip out soon...

Just to give anyone that's interested the heads up, the Caister Castle Car Collection is currently planning to reopen this year on Monday 17th May (2021). Covid permitting of course. Anyone travelling any distance should check their website closer to the date just to be sure (www.caistercastle.co.uk).
Just to note though that the Tower may well remain closed this year as it would be impossible to maintain social distancing on such a narrow, spiral staircase. Shame 'cos the views from the top are stunning but hey ho.
