My Vortex stuff is still in their cases, the rest such as sockets are in small canvas bags and sorted by type. I hate searching for a specific size socket as it takes ages, but I prefer having the space. Metric and imperial spanners are in separate tool rolls. It's all thrown into a Stanley bag which was bought for me some time ago and used to be full up with copper fittings so it can hold plenty if weight! I used to use a similar size flight case and still use it for storage. The issue is that with tools it weighs 50kg. My plumbing hand tools are spread over two very large tote bags. I need to do something sensible about my screwdrivers but can't get out of the habit of just dropping in the bag at the end of the day. I'm a firm believer on spending good money on a tool, even if you only plan to need it once. This has generated storage problems!

I've got a Sparco WRC tool roll, which is the size of a backpack. Great tool roll inside, with velcro straps for hammers etc. Hangs on a big strong hook in the garage until I need it - which thankfully isn't often.

Came here pretty empty handed apart from two old but quality 1/4 and 3/8 inch socket sets in a mix of Imperial and metric. All shallow sockets.
I bought two lots of spanners, in tool rolls, open and combination, but only metric as that's all you can get here.
Offered a job lot of stuff for 100 quid, which I bought unseen. Has virtually all the sockets I already had, but all deep, there was a bonus.
In addition, there was a load of spanners and, as a bigger win, they were all Imperial.
On the P38 basically everything up of the chassis is metric and underneath is Imperial. So a good mix helps.
Anyway, my wheel/tyre combination is too big for the spare wheel well, so I have a simple Stanley box with screwdrivers, pliers, etc in the top tray, hammers, adjustable wrenches, files, hacksaw and the like below. All the sockets in a similar box and all the spanners in individual rolls or a cloth bag.
In addition, there's a tow rope, jump leads, two x 2 ton bottle jacks. I also have a small box with electrical stuff in, multimeter, tape, fuses, bulbs and so on.
It all fits in the back very nicely and has been sufficient for every job I've had to do (so far!).

It all fits in the back very nicely and has been sufficient for every job I've had to do (so far!). Nothing like tempting fate.... I've acquired a few different socket sets etc over the years and some 'tool boxes' (briefcase style) from when I was an IT Field Engineer. Supplemented with additional sockets, ratchets etc which all really needs to be organised. Some is kept in an old bedroom chest of draws. As a portable tool box I try and keep a good selection in this, which is what I take to track days etc. Although normally my 'tool box' looks like this... One day when I clear up the garage I might invest in a roller cabinet, but then I'd need two sets of tools.
