Because the forum is now served fully over HTTPS, any embedded images will need to be also, it looks like your site is not configured for HTTPS i appreciate the diags chap. easy to say in hindsight i know but had come to the same conclusion/hunch mulling it over last night. that either the forum was blocking http links and/or automatically changing all urls to https links, essentially making the url for all my photos dead. i think its the latter because if i do a right mouse and copy the url, paste it, its https: not sure on a solution right now, not my area of expertise.

darrenh you'd need to purchase and install an SSL certificate. BT business have instructions here: btbusiness.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8895/~/how-do-i-setup-and-use-a-private-%28vanity%29-or-generic-ssl-certificate%3F/c/5178/It's not a quick and easy process for someone who's not done it before, but if you follow the steps then it's doable. Given that SSL certificates cost money, you may choose to simply not do it, as your site's not collecting any user info, and host the images somewhere else instead (on here directly or Imgur seem to be popular). Also yes, they do appear to be rewriting the URL to https *Before it's mentioned, I've deliberately omitted talking about free SSL like letsencrypt as it's another level of complexity due to short expiry times etc, so a bought cert is easier for those new to SSL

looked into it (logged into my dashboard) i do actually have ssl function with my account, its enabled. would have to move all my content to /secure folder (easy bit) then would have to edit all of project threads, thousands of urls, to add the btsecuresession prefix mind boggling.

Hmm yeah I kinda knew this might pop up for hotlinked images over SSL. I'm currently seeing if their is an alternative approach. I may be able to effectively proxy the images in, in the way I did for Photobucket for a while. It will have a financial impact on my cloud hosted stuff as that will need to scale out, but would be better to have the images working.
Let me mull it over this week and see if I can get it sorted.

sorry i misread the page, the top scenario will just make the same content and same urls have a secure version, with no other work involved (other then getting a certificate) thanks again for the advices p.s HoTWire appreciate you looking into the forum side too.

Pictures I've linked to flickr are OK but those I hosted on my own website are broken (obviously not https). So I either upload those images to flickr or to the RR hosting, not keen on either option really.

Unfortunately HTTPS everywhere is something that this forum really had no choice about - for the last few years browser vendors have been gradually making it more and more obvious that HTTP sites are "non-secure" (in the address bar etc.), and Google has for a while now given ranking boosts to HTTPS sites over HTTP. The web is shifting in the direction of HTTPS everywhere. Proboards actually held off longer than most (arguably they should have done it sooner as every day more HTTP images were added!).
Many hosting providers have started throwing in HTTPS for free or at lower cost as they can see it's becoming a necessity. I's a pain to move I know, and in most cases kind of unnecessary for sites that don't take any user details, but it's the way the industry is moving and ultimately it's got the best interests of user security in mind.

TessierAshpooltagging MiataMark (another nuance with RR, visible screen name miatamark, actual screen name garra so when tagging you have to type @ garra (without the space) thats a whole thread on its own lol coming to the conclusion the only easy way is to just conform and buy an SSL certificate, i like miatamark would prefer control over my own photos, rather than be duplicated or proxied. by the same token i don't see that its RR hosts responsibility, to host my images.

To be accurate username garra (which is what I first registered with) screen name miatamark (which I changed to when I bought a MX5). But yes another annoying nuance. Although to be fair if you use the 'insert User Link' button it will search on miatamark I use 1and1 (IONOS) for my hosting need to check if I can change to https, would still need to go back and change all the posts from http to https...

to be fair if you use the 'insert User Link' button it will search on miatamark a luxury reserved for desktop users in full reply mode (i think) I use 1and1 (IONOS) for my hosting need to check if I can change to https, would still need to go back and change all the posts from http to https... the forum is already changing all the links to https, that in essence is the reason the photos are dead links. all we need to do is get our hosts to serve a secure version of the same photo and all should be well.

I've added a SSL certificate for the domain I use to host images, with IONOS I get 2 free certificates otherwise the basic package is £25/year.
Now to wait up-to 24 hours to see if it works.

If you let me know the address, I'll check it for you from here and run it through some SSL testers I usually use.

Yes working now - you have added the option but not the obligation to have HTTPS your site, so can access using either. Some hosts offer a configuration option to force all requests to HTTpS if you like, but not necessary here

forgot to say it's a wheely good option....
Will look at the configuration options I only applied the basic (free) package, it does display as mixed content.

If you're talking about your own homepage, it's the two W3C images at the bottom that are non-secure, need to update their URLs. If you want to talk over any other stuff, feel free to drop me a PM, save cluttering this thread.
