A little while back 'Retro Cars' mag was revamped, went in a different direction and became Bi-Monthly. I only remember seeing one issue - what happened? has it gone?

I bought an issue a couple of months back out of curiosity.
Not sure if it is still going, it is still listed on Kelsey's site though, but the description is for the magazine it was.

Is it really as bad as that? Have a read and judge for yourself. It's not about modified classic cars any more, it seems to about cheap 90s / 00s cars that you'd find in your average car park. If that floats your boat then happy days. Luckily the Retro Rides magazine looks WAY better! |

Last time I saw it for sale, it seemed a lot of money for very little.
it was half the thickness of the monthly magazines it's up against

It changed format at the last issue of my subscription. They weren’t going to do modified anymore but just standard stuff from the 80/90’s.
I don't want to read about that, i was there! Needless to say I didn’t renew the subscription and havent heard from them since. Obviously don't need the business or its folded 🤷🏼♂️

If that floats your boat then happy days. Luckily the Retro Rides magazine looks WAY better! I think for us, we forgot that Retro Cars had cars which were cars that were more visible back then as well and affordable to buy ; our goalposts/age simply haven't really moved. There aren't many 70s cars or even 80s cars that which I like that I'd now call affordable (as in sub £2k for something that won't be a moneypit, if I was willing to spend that now). The cars I had back then (Dolly Sprint and 944 S2/Turbo) have gone up almost 3 fold, which for me ( and I know others) just doesn't make them as appealing anymore. It's scary business is age. The E39 5 series is now 25 years old! The first MGB I bought was then 23 years old and the Midget afterwards was about 27 years old; which then were very firmly in the classic territory. Christ, My 740s were in their late teens when this place/autoshite seemed to love the things as were modded examples, albeit more prevailant in Switzerland. That's perspective :/. However, I don't think the goalposts on cars have moved as we expected them to. Or maybe they did and we simply weren't prepared for the results. That said, I can't say I enjoy the mag that much for most of the time ; Modern Classics I don't mind, but damn, they need to lose the 'investor' tag on so many levels! |
