I'm having one of those months, the td5 conversion on my rrc is taking waaay longer than i thought it would, my p38 seized solid, and the replacement engine i thought i had is no better than the one we just took out. Then no1 son appears revving the nuts off his disco 2, all the gears except 4th have vanished and the only way he can get it to mine is hard revs and clutch slipping. No2 daughter and SIL appear with grandson no1 in their freelander, do a couple of runs for me with swombo and set off for home 20 mins later i get the call to inform me that said freelander is on fire, in the next village! Jump into mk3 escort cabrio ( my sole working vehicle) and arrive as fire brigade are putting it out! Thank God all got out, including the dog I know these things are sent to try us, but can I just stop now? Ob and ive got a cold too. Now where did I put the Grouse?
With grateful thanks to West Norfolk Fire Brigade, you guys are the real heroes

Firstly, thank goodness all are ok after the car fire. Yep, these rolls of ongoing challenges sure make us question whats it all about! The "good" thing is that all the cars except the freelander are fixable at some point although its curse word when everyone always knocks on your door to fix them as it gets tiring after a while.

I think what you are experiencing is called ‘Land Rover ownership’.

Thanks for support all. I would say that i don't see the p38 as a Landy, with the BMW Engine its an X5 in a posh frock!

Top tip for next time, tell him to use 4th gear low range too move off, then gently gently change to high range once rolling.

When you're going through Hell, just keep going. You'll soon come out the other side.

With grateful thanks to West Norfolk Fire Brigade, you guys are the real heroes I was sorry to hear your tale of woe; one saving grace re the Freelander is that with it having decided to self-destruct like a funeral pyre, which consequently required the attendance of Trumpton, that branch of the emergency services in the fair county of Norfolk are the only ones who are guaranteed to respond when requested. If you wanted Plod, then maybe get there sometime in the next few days; that is unless there is a firearm involved when the Armed Response Vehicle will be there tickity boo. Likewise the ambulance will probably be there in 8 hours if my recent experience with an elderly neighbour is anything to go by. Even her GP attended, and requested urgent attendance of a blood wagon, all to no avail. So yes, well done Norfolk Fire Brigade - keep up the good work.

Look at it this way - at least nobody has been hurt, or worse. Freelander = covered by insurance. Other stuff - just mechanical gubbins, sadly going off when you don't need it too. And you HAVE that bottle of Grouse. Due to the medication I am currently on, all I would be able to do is look at said bottle...

The problem is, as soon as i crack the top off, the Whisky fairy arrives and drains the bottle in VERY short shrift, can’t possibly be me...... can it?🧐

That pesky whisky fairy, leaves you to wake up with an empty wallet and trying to find the bruise where she hit your head with a piece of 2x4, is that the one?

I'd say the escort cab is the worst part of this whole story That’s weird, I think the worst part is either owning or even wanting to own any sort of Landrover of any type
