What about a rover 600? Slightly smaller than the 800, not quite so luxo-barge, but still keeping up apearances-ish. I cant remember seeing one properly stanced, but it should happen. Basically a re-skinned Honda Accord. Good cars, but don’t have quite the same presence of an 800.

Thinking back to the 80's, my (posh) relatives that would be considered middle class had a Passat estate (I suppose it depends in your definition of middle class) My uncle always had nearly new Granada Ghias, but he was a working class plumber (so never associated them with middle class)

when I first saw this I was jumping up and down shouting VIP Rover 827, something I've wanted to do forever. You might not have the budget for a Sterling or a Vitesse, but even an 820 would work. From what you said I was thinkng it would have to be British, but the more I think about it, maybe a Volvo or Saab could also work? Either way, vip 827s are for winners so yeah do that.

A VIP 800 series rover with wide stancey boy weds with neck pillows and curtains would be cool 🤔

First thought was an R 800 too, but now you mention the Swedes....
A Volvo 900/800 would fit the bill nicely, Anything from stock to racing colours..... No, they never took the 900 racing, but why shouldn't you?.....
Edit to add: Just stick a plastic Labrador in the back and you're good to go

When Rover 800 was mentioned I had the hatchback in my head. Cool enough, but then I saw that black saloon and thought 'forget the 600'. 90's rovers have gone through a period of being a bit, er, naff? If that's not the right word then its something like that. But just look at that grill. Why wouldn't you?
