Is there s small modern turbo that I could fit to my mini to give say 80 bhp and not mod the bulkhead ?
Just thinking about how to go with my mini and this seems a good all round way .

Is it not easier to weld a box into the bulkhead than manufacture lots of pipework and manifold?

Most of the very small turbos on modern stuff (very common now) are VNT so you'd need to figure out a control system for that too.

Diesel turbo from a transit /vivaro would size up about right fit a 1litre petrol , just need to swap actuator for a boost fed one

IIRC some have done an over-the-gearbox mounting for the turbo to avoid the bulkhead box...

skyline dave, don't want to mod the bulkhead at all, will maybe do the pipework myself, but its only an idea yet.
stelth thanks, ill be using the microsquirt i think, and also a small throttle body, try to make it all very compact
froggy had a look at t hose now, look good but cant work out the size from the ebay pics lol! thanks
1430, didnt want to use the mini turbo forum, i think there is enough knollage here but willhave a good look now.
idea is jsut to give it some push, not alot, just enough to let it keep up with modern traffic. I don't want a LOOK AT ME install either, it wants to be as unnoticable as possible
i can do this, but i have no idea at all about turbos, i think there must be a new type turbo that is small enough to just give it 60-80 bhp and be happy liek that transit one...
thanks!!

The fusion fabs 'over the flywheel housing' manifold along with a Garret GT15 turbo are what you want.

Most of the very small turbos on modern stuff (very common now) are VNT so you'd need to figure out a control system for that too. Or run it in a fixed position and accept the sacrifice in performance ?

how do they change the position of the rotor? What type of signal does it need? i wonder if the microsquirt can sort that out.
The fusion fabrications website said to use the Garrett GT1752 turbo, is there much to be gained with a variable one? I am up for a challange, just not a headache!

Most have gone to electronic control now but earlier types used ECU controlled vacuum to move the vanes (ECU takes into account various inputs to decide how much vacuum to supply). You can just put a normal boost controlled actuator on but from the ones I've tried they don't work correctly. I've now made my own actuator that uses a much stiffer spring to try and get the vanes to open in a more linear fashion but not had chance to fit/test it yet.

The 1.4 tdci fiesta of 2004 vintage uses vacuum control and is pretty small.

thanks, that turbo looks good, but as ive no idea what I'm doing just yet, i think teh gt15 is the one to go for and also, i know itll fit.
Ive got an old LCB I'm thinking of making the manifold myself now...

Get over to Turbo Minis. There are a few 998 turbos over on there running on “mirage” style manifolds to avoid bulk head modifications. I’ve only ever run turbo 1275+.
