I have fitted Volvo 240 Struts and strut tops to my Corsair My question is to the people that have Volvo 240 is how do I do the nut up and stop the strut rod turning? An 1" Imperial socket fits the nut perfectly is there a special tool available or am I being stupid and missing something obvious?
I don't have an impact gun electric or air power.

If you don’t have a rattle gun, you need a Step ring spanner and either a big adjustable or pair of mole grips on the flats on the end of the threaded bit.

I do have a stepped ring spanner that fits only just but it's not the best I was just wondering if anyone had something they had used that was better. With this combination of tools, my 10mm open ended could not handle it so I needed the big adjustable to hold the rod still.
I gave it a go and it was sketch for a while fresh paint big tools and a lot of force but I managed to get them done up we will have to see how it drive when I'm done.

Well personally I'd have done that before you fitted them to the car anyway, it can be done without struggling.

I know what you mean Ken but the reason I fitted them as I did was down to my space constraints of the garage and needing the weight of the car to aid in the mechanical advantage/leverage for doing it up.

The last time I had to do one like that I cut and old box spanner down to make a tool up, nothing else in my vast selection of tools would do the job!

Where are you? I'm pretty sure I've still got the cut down socket welded to a bar that I used when I had a 240. If you're anywhere near Wiltshire you're welcome to borrow it.
