after seeing uncle henry coles latest creation on autojumbling, how about a retro rides car/speed/retro spares only event,i know it costs a fair bit to organise an event these days with marshalling/health n safety twaddle.but it should be possible for it to be tagged onto an existing event such as the brilliant NSRA hot rod swapmeets. the uk needs such an event otherwise we will have to continue to suffer with either hideously expensive shows such as the NEC classic car rip off or newark with its row upon row off knackered rusty bike crud and traveller (probably knicked)
contents of some poor sods van.even the once mighty beuleiu autojumbles are getting to be a sad sight with empty stall spaces and piles of useless curse word.

I like the row upon row of knackered rusty bike crud 😉 But a better autojumble would be great, all i tend to find now is consumables and the odd tool. Its the same with bootsales though, the internet has really damaged the good old autojumble.

The problem is it's dead easy to go on the web and find out how much something is worth or sell it. Even upto a few years ago we used to get some proper hauls from the NSRA Swap Meets because hot rodders were selling "non hot rod" or unfashionable stuff cheap because they didn't realise it had value. Now you can check eBay in seconds the swap meet prices have gone up to match, I've barely bought anything at the last few.

We did an autojumble once.
It was fun. But a pain to organise, lost a bunch of money and really it was just a social event in the end.

Back in the day I did loads of autojumbles, longside car shows in the summer, and standalone events in the winter. They were always well attended but they have been affected by the internet in the same way that the highstreet has. Back then you knew that the autojumble was the only oppertunity youd have to stock up on stuff, and you went with the mindset of 'if you see it, buy it' and stash it away until you need it. With ebay that isnt really necessary (usually). I honestly cant see now how a standalone autojumble would work, mabie an autojumble alongside a big show that already attracts a large variety of 'target audience'. THAT might work.

I run an Autojumble (actually a Swapmeet) I use the local Vintage Club premises and piggyback their insurance too. And despite my best efforts over 7 years now it still is tiny with maybe 1000 attendees
