As title really, just picked up a car still registered on Southern Irish plates and it would seem nobody has completed the Nova declaration to say it's here as of yet.
I know I need to tell the HMRC that it's here and jump through some hoops before I can complete the V55/5 (or is it /4) to get my UK plates. And without the Nova it's a brick wall really with DVLA.
Any pointers or has anyone here had experience of this?
The car is 2003 and I have no idea how long it has been here for
Cheers

I put a classic moped on the nova system. It had been here a while and hadnt been done. I just filled it in and said i didnt know who i had bought it off (it had no docs at all). All went fine. They didn't seem bothered, presumably because there was obviously nothing to be paid so they don't care who may have bee responsible for paying the vat (or whatever it is they are checking for)

Likewise. I had moped from Hungary with no docs, they are not even registered there. I just completed the Nova with the info I had which wasn't much. Again no problems. It was quite quick from what I remember.

Tell them it is a moped and it will go thru no problems then?

I managed to get the NOVA for my Trabi fine, although it had been here since 2013 (registering in 2017). I'd get it applied for prior to the end of next month though, just in case we do actually leave the EU.

Hi saxoman. As it happens I have just moved back to England after two years in Dublin and I'm in the process of registering my daily for use over here. My understanding is: Registering with HMRC is only to make sure any duties have been paid prior to registration. I filled out my NoVA this evening and it brought me to a confirmation page staying the amount of vat due. (Nothing in case you were wondering) The registration with the DVLA is an entirely separate process. Go to www.gov.uk/dvlaforms and request a 'Used vehicle import pack'. It gets sent out in the post for you to fill out and return. I only set up a government gateway ID to fill out my NoVA but once done it is actually very useful. I found out that I'm owed over 600 quid in overpaid tax that I would never have known about if I hadn't set it up! What are you bringing in to the country anyway? Ireland don't salt their roads so hopefully it's a fairly rust free example. Best of luck! Edit* I too would get in before Brexit makes things more difficult for you.
