I'm converting my W114 to power-steering as I have an original power-steering box ready to go. The engine I'm fitting (M103) has a power steering option so a power steering pump that would fit. But it might get a little tight in that area as the engine bay width is narrow and I want to get air-con and maybe one day a supercharger in too.
Reading around electric vehicle conversions of cars, a Vauxhall electric power steering pump is sometimes used to replace the engine driven one when the engine is ditched. The big advantage for me would be that it could be sited in a spare space in the engine bay or even cabin rather than on the side of the engine where space is tight.
So I wondered if anyone has any experience of them: Are they reliable? Any particular make to avoid or seek? Can they be switched off when not parking to give a firmer steering feel say on motorways or do steering boxes need constant oil circulation to avoid wearing out?
Thanks
