I know this is a bit modern but there are a lot of Land Rover people on here who I'm hoping might be able to help. Car is a 2003 Discovery 2 TD5 Last November bad running issues, fuel pump replaced. About a month ago starting problems where the engine wouldn't fire (probably not the right term for a diesel) fuel pump running. All symptoms of air getting into system. Replaced fuel filter, air bleed valve (was blocked) and all seemed well. Week or so later problem reoccurring, engine needs churning with accelerator pedal to floor before running. Injector seals replaced, also changed injector harness as it was showing signs of oil ingress this is the second time this has been changed. The injector seals certainly looked past their best. Now have an intermittent fault of sometimes it will start then cut out and not re-start, then will start if you churn away as before. Tried a new fuel pump in case the previous problems had wrecked the pump but no change. All work has been carried out by a reputable independent Land Rover specialist that I trust, we've used them for 20 odd years. Any Land Rover experts out there experienced anything similar? Thanks, Mark p.s. The retro link is that the more I spend on the Discovery the less I can spend on the MX5

Sounds like air getting in the fuel lines or if it has one the lift (low pressure) pump has failed.

They do use an air flow meter. Mine was checked before the remap. Also engine oil in the harness from the injectors to the ECU is an issue but I think that causes misfiring rather than no firing.

If the heads cracked , it dumps fuel into the sump , raising the level . Worth checking as you don’t want it picking up & running on . Also , there was a mod for the fuel lines going over the fuel tank . They rubbed through on the body , also worth checking .

I have to admit that it's at the garage, I don't work on the Disco, it was serviced recently so would hope that any fuel in oil would have been picked up. Interesting to know about the fuel lines, the fuel tank did come out a few years ago when the chassis was welded up.
Thing is all these would be faults that were present at the beginning, my feeling is that this is a new but related issue maybe caused by something being disturbed when the injector seals were changed.

It’s really easy to ‘nick’ a seal when fitting . The hole they go into isn’t machined smooth at the top , more a cast sharp edge . Other than that , nothing really should have changed . Don’t really need to remove much to get at the injectors .

As stated, check fuel lines particularly where they go over the chassis rail to the rear filter, LR did a recall for these, but I heard it wasn’t that successful.

Fuel line over the frame problem will cause visable fuel leak. Did mine a year ago. Usually it is only the green line that wears through. It did start as normal while leaking
