Here we have an average example of a P38 Range Rover. I say average because it’s neither a rough old dog hiding fleas but it’s not a minter you’ll be scared of venturing near a supermarket car park with. As such, expect some little niggles..
It’s a 1998 “HSE Luxury” according to the badge, Limited Edition according to the V5C. No idea what in means in reality but there are black electric leather seats throughout (drivers heater doesn’t work but it’s s common issue and there’s a £20 kit to fix it), heated front screen (about half of which works - enough to clear ice and snow), dual zone climate control and numerous other little bits which probably aren’t on a 2.5DSE.
There’s a GEMS 4.6 V8 under the bonnet (not the original engine - judging by the wad of receipts for head gaskets the original might have suffered with dropped liner syndrome), which has had a full service with oil, filter, plugs and leads.
The infamous P38 battery drain issue has been fixed. with a funky little gizmo attached to the RF receiver for the central locking.
Air suspension is present, correct and in fine order. Takes a week or two to drop down.
It’s wearing a set of L322 rims with Goodyear Wranglers all round with plenty of tread.
The original ICE was barely working so there’s a conventional head unit with a DAB/BT receiver fitted instead and the door amps bypassed. Will include the original head unit as it matches the H&K kit should you wish to have a go.
Indicators have been converted to clear (MY2000 spec).
Faults?
There’s the usual issue of a blend motor on the HVAC (it works but the system doesn’t always know where one of the flaps is, so complains). It still works fine.
Headlining is being held in place around the sunroof with the help of some staples. Again, standard P38 issue.
Niggles?
It’s a 20 year old Rangie - expect the odd bit of broken or squeaky plastic.
Bought as a snow/tow car / haven’t tried it in snow but doubt it will have any issues. Been towing the race car around the country this year and the only reason for selling is the fuel bill. It’ll do about 20mpg solo, but low teens are aspirations when towing and I’ve had to go diesel, so this is now for sale.
MoT until May 2020 (tester commented on how solid it was underneath). I have the EKA code and one working key (there are guys who can create you a second for £100 or so - just never got round to it).
Available separately is a Hawkeye diagnostics (unlocked to all LR products) - essential if you have a P38 - £300.
