Possibly the wrong bit of the forum given it involves a Hot Wheels car but I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is based on a real car? I'm sure I've seen it before but it may just have been on the concept sketches page of Street Machine years ago. I can't figure out if the base is a Mk10 or not. I bought this one but is comes in other colours too

hotwheels.fandom.com/wiki/Fish%27d_%26_Chip%27dNot based on an actual custom but certainly based on the Mk X. I am aware of a small number of Mk X's / 420 G's which are 2 door vehicles but this has been done during work to turn them into convertibles. I'm unaware of a 2 door conversion retaining the steel roof, (but that's not to say it has never happened).

I have never, ever heard the term โfish and chippedโ or โfished and chippedโ Ever used in the uk hot rod scene.
Iโm pretty sure that is totally made up.

Invoking the power of Google: the only reference to this term in respect of car customising seems to relate specifically to this Hot Wheels model which would appear to back up your claim.

Well that's fished all over my chips. Next you will be telling us there is no such thing as a custom that changes colour if you run it under a hot tap.

Right, so a bit more fishing about on the interweb turned up a thread ( forum.retro-rides.org/thread/63718/expression-session ) on this very site from 10 years ago which featured this sketch from Australian Street Machine magazine. It is possible that this is where I saw it, and not UK SM. It also has this version In said thread this comment appears, so obviously Fish'd and Chip'd isn't really that new at all HotWheels did a model that was very similar to that first jag - I always assumed it was based on an actual car, but maybe not. Definitely needs to be done, anyway. That thread up there contains a link to another thread about SM, Custom Car etc ( retrorides.proboards.com/thread/59732 ) which contains this image from Steve Kirk's Motorvation on page 11 (of the thread) So maybe I did see it in UK SM years ago before I moved to Australia. Anyway, if you fancy a bit of a look back at the good old days, or some inspiration for your current RR then I suggest you spend a few hours perusing both threads.

I know there's been quite a few 2 door conversions over the years, but the curves on those panels would make this a 'run away screaming' moment for a lot of people, including me, never mind that roof chop!

Slightly predictably, I have a fish'd and chip'd Jaguar, this one. Having seen pics of 2dr mk10s against 4dr mk10s, 2drs look so good to the point that it makes 4drs look wrong! Its almost as if the door area looks too crowded with 4drs crammed in there. The convertable looks perfect in 2dr form, id love to see a 2dr'd roof'd version for real. Somebody needs to get on it! Its great to see those old motorvation pages, thanks. Helps give the model a bit of background. I'm sure it must have been inspired by those drawings.

I'd predict you'd need a double garage to open the door to get out after parking up. Many moons ago I tried putting my Mk X into a standard garage and the door wouldn't open more than a few inches so I couldn't get back out. Very wide car + long, wide doors. Factor in another 9 or 12 inches on the door measurement . . .

That man isn't me, so I could be talking out of my back eye.

All sorts of options available to someone with those high level fabrication skills; modifying to scissor or butterfly doors perhaps?

Very interesting, very attractive but a bit too Americanised for my tastes and far too much of the original car lost. Still hoping someone comes up with evidence of a (real) 2 door steel top conversion.
