Thought Id start this thread for interesting car facts.
Ive been watching a video on youtube of a guy that completed a 4wd conversion on a ford focus. He kept mentioning that he'd used Volvo v50 parts, which I thought was a bit random. But a bit of research revealed that a lot of the chassis components were shared and interchangeable between the Focus, Kuga, Volvo v50 and Mazdas. Cool....
And NO, porsche engines don't bolt straight in to VWs, (before anybody else beats me to it)😂

Just read this and I’m sure lots of you already know - but after building the first alloy bodied Porsche 356 cars in Austria for a couple of years, Porsche contracted Reutter to build steel bodies in Germany. When Porsche bought the Reutter company in 1963, Reutter retained the seat manufacturing part of the business and changed its name to "Recaro".

Early models of the SAAB 99 essentially had a Triumph Dolomite engine, mounted backwards to fill a manufacturing gap until Saab's own engine engineering was complete. Led to many rumors of a Stag-engined V8 version, which with a turbo would have been amazing. Mk II Ford KA's are built on the same platform as the FIAT 500. Daewoo Matiz was a rejected concept by Giugiaro for the FIAT 500. Citroen BX was a rejected Giugiaro Concept for Volvo. Renault Espace was originally developed by Matra as a replacement for the Talbot / Simca Rancho. Lexus GS300 was developed after an abandoned Jaguar design pitch by Giugiaro

No it’s not made of aluminium, no John Delorean didn’t smuggle drugs in them, no I don’t owe any random bloke that walks up to me at a car show his £5.00 that he thinks he paid extra in tax to fund it, yes you can open the doors if someone parks close at the side of you & yes they were the first production car to run on unleaded straight out the factory

VW 1.6 TD engines (a variant) were used mounted in a cradle as fire pumps on board ships by the Royal Navy*
The original SAS Light Strike Vehicle (looks like a Sand rail but bristling with guns and little hard barstewards) was designed with an air cooled VW flat four but they kept adding weapons and munitions so it had to go water cooled.
The VW Sharan/Mk1 Galaxy came about as a feasibility study by VAG where they took a Chrysler Voyager and transplanted VAG running gear to see if the concept would work
* Some may remember when we had a Navy with actual ships

Mondeo and V70 (both 2007 on), V60 and S-Max share the same platform.
Volvo alarms and sat nav are shared with AM Vantage.
The design used by the Renault Master vans were offered to LDV originally as the LDV 202. The LDV 201 became the Gaz Gazelle.

Citroen BX was a rejected Giugiaro Concept for Volvo. Renault Espace was originally developed by Matra as a replacement for the Talbot / Simca Rancho. Any one know if those wheels ever seeped into existance? I need some for..... er....... I'll think of something.

Lexus, Infiniti and Acura only exist because America was scared they weren't selling enough home built cars.
This very shouty man explains it better than I can.

Not really retro but the LDV Maxus was originally meant to be a Daewoo and the Grande Punto/Corsa D share the same platform.
Also the 1.6 Diesel engines used in modern Volvo/Ford are also used in most Peugeot/Citroen models, Mazda’s, Mini’s, 1-series plus some more I can’t remember.
