Bought this Breadvan at the end of May as a runabout and to pick up some parts for my other projects. It has performed both roles admirably, but the time has come to move it on. It'd make an ideal cheap retro runaround for someone who has a couple of free weekends to tidy it up It has done around 1800 miles in my ownership, including multiple day trips over to North Yorkshire and a round trip from Manchester to Aberdeen without skipping a beat - I'd have no concerns about hopping in it and driving anywhere.
1.3i 4 speed, 121k miles (still in use so may increase)
10 months MOT, to end of May 2020
TA Technix coilovers, GT steering wheel, short shift kit
Previous owner did the following (no proof): Head gasket, clutch, front wings, sill welded, polybushed front ARB
In the two months I've owned it, I've sourced a centre console as the original was missing, done the nearside rear wheel bearing, and fitted a new standard exhaust.
Bodywork and paintwork generally quite clean with a few marks and scratches consistent with age - paint is still remarkably red. Interior is generally in good condition, bar the driver's side bolster and a small tear in the headlining behind the drivers seat. Sunroof sealed shut by previous owner - on the plus side, I can confirm it definitely doesn't leak. I've got a box of assorted MK2/MK2f bits you can have as well if you'd like.
A few points of note:
- Rear reg plate lights and reverse lights don't seem to be working.
- Small oil leak, believed to either be from the rocker cover gasket or the sump gasket.
- Chip on windscreen, has been repaired and is non-obtrusive as it is almost entirely hidden behind the rear view mirror.
- Slight fuel smell if the tank is more than 2/3rds full - no visible signs of a leak.
- Left indicator sometimes freaks out a little unless you hold it down. New stalks are inexpensive and widely available, but I have a feeling that the stalk is just misaligned or could do with some contact cleaner.
- Previous owner cut off the rear exhaust hanger to fit his own hilarious "custom" exhaust, so to fit this standard one I have had to bolt new hangers in place of the original ones. The exhaust is sitting a little bit low due to this, but hasn't caught on any speed bumps or been an issue at all.
- Previous owner has a small prang, and straightened out the front slam panel instead of replacing it, so the front doesn't quite line up perfectly. The panel is available from VWHeritage and seems straightforward to fit. All structural parts at the front end seem straight and true.
- A few rattles, noises, and idiosyncrasies - it is getting on for 30 years old now.
I have GT clocks (with rev counter), a GT interior, and a set of Alleycat alloys available separately - see last two pictures.
Any questions please ask! I am also happy to provide any photos you require. Viewing encouraged, I am generally available evenings and weekends and will do my best to accommodate you if you give me enough notice. I will not entertain offers from anyone who hasn't at least been in touch with me beforehand, and no swaps/px. No test pilots without proof of fully comp insurance and a deposit in hand. Located in Old Trafford, Manchester, M16 area.
