Viceversa I saw an x-type estate these days and considered one as a daily.
Then I learned it´s actually a mondeo (well, sort of) and the quality is equally questionable - so I binned that idea quickly.
Equally questionable is a funny thing. I've had a few of these do 300k+ Miles without a hitch. The same couldn't be said about my B6 Passat, which should have been a buyer's guide example of what goes wrong (Steering lock issues, caliper issues/coding, electrics etc.), or lately, a mate's 2006 Audi A4 2.0 PD TDI, which has suffer the well-known oil pump drive failure, and has resulted in my mate basically scrapping the car.
Sorry, it doesn't seem well founded that remark, but more based on old wives tales .
Back on track though .
IIRC the 4x4s may have used a different floorpan. That will be the question to find out.
Another thing. In both cars, the V6 is a very tight fit and is a nightmare to work on. I've owned 2 Mk3 V6s and am aware of just awkward it is. The engines will drop in, there is no question there, but be prepared for alot of fiddling.
