This is embarrassing. I was flushing my radiator as the car was overheating. The hose flew off and doused the engine bay. I dried it off the best I could then carried on with the flushing. I filled the system up and fired up the car to get it warmed up for bleeding.
It ran fine then stopped -restarted then wouldn't fire (there was a spark on the starter solenoid connection s) then was completely dead no indication lights on the dash no click from the starter nothing. I sprayed wd40 on the starter connections, battery terminals, coil and dizzy and leads. I tried charging the battery for a few hours with the bonnet open to help dry things out but it's still the same.
I charged the battery overnight and had 13.6v on the battery. Tried to start the car and got a bzzt noise and nothing else then checked the battery again and it was down to 12.6v
