Several years ago the Jowett Car Club were donated a 1951 Jowett Javelin by a former members family - the car was complete and despite the owners good intentions the restoration that it required was never commenced - but basically the car presented a sound structure and a very viable project
After some research I managed to place it with Leeds City College who ran a dedicated classic car course - the idea being is that gave the college a viable project for the students on the course whilst also providing for an excellent PR platform for both the college & the club to work from
They got stuck in and we provided whatever support we could offer
Things went ok for the first few years but then the courses started to get delayed or cancelled along with the college relocating to a completely new site - then the two lecturers that had spearheaded the project left the college to form their own restoration business - at the same time the college pulled the classic car course completely from the prospectus due to lack of funding - so for the last two years the car has sat gathering dust at the college
However on Tuesday of this week this happened - collected & loaded to my trailer
Along with all the parts for it
On Wednesday I delivered it to here
This is 'The Heritage Skills Academy' based at Bicester Heritage - which train around 50 apprentices per year for the classic car industry - now firmly established and with some very impressive plans for the future - the facilities & staff are exactly what the industry has been in search of for many years
So the plan is for the club & its members to work with the Academy & its students in order to further the restoration of the car - the car once returned the road shall be used by the Academy for promotional work alongside daily use has required - I shall be supporting the Academy directly in any way that I can both through the club & my business - Bicester is only just over an hour up the road from me too - I have attached a link to the Academy below which is a fabulous resource and deserves all the support it can get
