My first car was a 1953 oval window beetle. I started taking it apart to "restore" it in time for my 17th birthday when I'd get my licence. It sat for so long the chassis fell in two as I had all the glass out and it was always wet. It got baled!! The good bits I'd stored away, (popes nose, Heart shaped taillights etc) were sold to help fund my wedding, many years later. If I had it today?? A proper "Cal Looker". 135 front and 165 rear Firestones on Fuchs. Big engine on twin IDF's. No chrome. Nerf bars. Lowered front.

My first car was a 1953 VW floorpan.
It was an abandoned project from one of my dads buddies (he already stripped the body off it), which I got when I was 10 years old. I got it with the words " here kid, learn something..."
We shortened it to Mini wheelbase, because my first plan was to put a Mini body on it.
But at about 13 I decided to draw my own body for it, a low slung coupe all out of straight and single curve panels ( one of the challenges was that I didn't know how tall to make the roof, because I wasn't done growing yet...)
I worked on it till I was about 19. At which time the '70s energy crisis had hit, I already swapped my hand me down Austin 1100 for my first Fiat because I couldn't afford to run the Austin, and I realized I couldn't afford to buy the fuel a souped up VW would need.
And I really enjoyed the Fiat ( a '72 500 ), so at some point I decided to part out the VW. ( when I needed the space because I had bought a 2nd 500, a Giardiniera project )
Over the years, I kept one side of the bodywork on the wall of my garage( made out of fiberglass sheet I bought at a city bus breakers yard ), to remind myself to not make a project too complicated, and have it stall.
What I'd do with it today, is finish it.
But as things stand, I learned a lot from it ( time management, money, space, etc. As well as honing my craft ) So eventhough I never got to drive it, it did set me up for bigger and better things...

I would probably get rid of the purple bits and stickers but not much else . This is it 2 weeks ago or so , i went to a car show where i had a good idea it would be . I have not seen it since 1999 ! Pretty amazed to hear its story as well . Still on the Mg metro engine which must have 120,000 miles on but has not been apart and is fine . Its only had a set of outer sills , a door and a wing that was dented and still has the same paint with the same marks etc !

My first car was a 1994 Peugeot 106 1.4 diesel Mardi Gras. I removed the horrible Mardi Gras patterns, added GTI Raptors and fitted a second hand K&N filter. This was my pride and joy and I loved it. The love began to die when I took it to uni and it began to deteriorate fast. I do wish I had the facility to tuck it away though, as they're hard to come by now! If I could do it again, I'd paint the panels which had faded (very common for these). My mate etched a giant penis on the roof, after I had tried to T-Cut it back lol. I'd also lower the front subtly onto springs and add an XSI interior. Otherwise, I'd keep it largely the same to be honest.

I still own it and with a huge budget I would take off work for three months and build it, without letting anyone else near it. This car will be 100% built by me. Eventually. I would not fit those mirrors, and the lights are also now removed, and rather than a silly Max Power look, I have something far sillier but better executed planned. Effectively, all I would be changing is the quality of the finished product.

Get the rs turbo engine fitted to the Orion in my signature pic Was my papas, then my mums, then I learned to drive in it, wasted a few bob on mods then wrote it off 3 months before 1 years NCB accrued . Didnt claim and didnt get charged for the lamp post I flattened Was probably for the best as I would most likely have smashed it after wasting £3k at AVA Tuning to have the lump fitted.

My first was this 1200 estate, I had some nice wide j's on the back, and if you look very closely you might see the rear side and tailgate glass have a slight yellow tint, it was a spray on rattle can job, most of it just ran down the window as fast as I sprayed. Later this was coverd in a mirror finish film, called razzle dazzle or something like that. The main thing I would do now, would be to treat her better.

1984 Renault 5 1.4TS I'd Put it on banded steels lower it just a tad (not slammed in the slightest) and swap to the larger 1.7 engine. I'd fit throttle bodies to make it sound nice and uprated brakes. and that'd do

1971 Hillman Hunter GT. I bought it because I lived in Essex and everybody my age at the time, 17, wanted Ford, well we grew up with Dagenham down the road and everybody who worked at the Tractor plant had shiny new Fords at heavily discounted prices. I wanted to be different! I actually saw a GT for sale on ebay recently and I was very tempted as I now have an empty garage. You can't go back though. If I had it today? Just lowered a bit with banded steels colour coded to the red bodywork. Nice quality high back seats too. Hunters were way better than Cortinas.

Mine in 1995: I bought it in March of that year when I was 17, and 13 days later stuck it in a hedge. The replacement front beam was lowered so I decided to build a 90s cal looker, blade bumpers, low all round, etc. It ended up ok though: If I could do it all over again, I'd have kept it as a late model. Still lowered front, still probably dechromed, still big motor (although a fuel injected 2387 instead of the carb'd 2007), maybe even the same colour, but I wouldn't have gone for the '67-look. It'd have an IRS conversion though, a Porsche 5 speed gearbox and brakes, and 5.5 and 6 inch Fuchs. Much the same then, just better!

the 205 gti I had was exactly the same, one of the most dangerous cars I have owned, no warning when it was about to let go and had a good few very near misses.
Would have it back in a heart beat; Sorrento Green G110 VGE. Last known in the Falkirk area

I couldn't let go either, even after bending the front badly. 28 years! Along with other toy cars that have not reduced it's desirability... Have to attack rust in bonnet & cowl/plenum now though. & oil leaks. Still want decent repaint, to make up custom bumpers & an Integra 1.8 DOHC still tempts even if I'd want to "test" fit it in another car first to ensure it's character wasn't lost

Last known in the Falkirk area I was test-driving my brother's Pug 205 GTi 1.6 along a winding country road and got the back end to suddenly step out in a big way, mind you, his rather full-figured (and very top-heavy) girlfriend sitting in the back seat may have had something to do with it - you should have heard her gasp!

I might be wrong but i think that engine would be worth more than the car now . Not saying the cars worthless , far from it ,more like the engine would fetch a fortune .
