Just had my 1st ride on a geared motorcycle, passed my cbt (hard not to!) i now want to buy a cheap and reliable 125cc bike, i only need it for the short term before i go up to the slightly higher cc models, ( depending on the rest of the tests!)
anything in the Essex area or a tad beyond? Not fussed on make, but a simple reliable model would be ideal, and cheap too! I think i will be spending a few quid on clothing and a a helmet.

Congrats on the cbt :-) when I passed mine I was tempted to do the same...until I was in a shop looking for a lid (yep...apparently u have to call them that!). The guy in there persuaded me to just go do my full test instead. I also noticed that 125’s are generally expensive for what they are. Sooo much more choice and cheaper for larger engined bikes. Got my Yamaha/600 for £600 and it’s been perfect for commuting for the past 2 years

Cheers sarkie83 just in the process of (Possibly) getting a 125 plus a new LID (love it!) for £550, has mot, new parts, reliable, but chinese made, but, i intend on going for the test within 2 months time, i don't mind if i need a restricter plate, but most of the time i will be using the car or truck, How much is the full test? Thanks again!

I think I spent more on gear than I did on the bike..haha! Got a bit of a shock how much gloves and boots can cost (especially when you are riding in all weathers and need decent weatherproof stuff). If there is a J&S near you, I would recommend giving it a visit - good range of stuff, prices and quite often have store only deals as well. The closest one to me is St Albans and the manager has always been a top bloke!
I did a 4 day direct access course which was in the region of £550 inc. the costs of the mod1 (manoeuvres around cones, emergency stop through a speed trap etc) & mod2 (followed by an examiner while you ride on the road) tests.
Be aware that you also need a separate theory test before you do the above. For me there was a couple of month wait that part...so if you are planning on doing it, it might be worth booking that soon.
What bike have u got lined up? Warning, riding does get under your skin! I thought I’d be immune...but nope ;-)

haha! i already have visions of a harley! then something 70's! then... and then......... !!! i am meant to be picking up a chinese made thing tomorrow just to get me on the road, then see where it takes me? it's quite surprising the amount of different bikes out there, styles, designs etc etc.... if it does 'get hold of me' as i think it might, then maybe i will need a couple just to quench my thirst!

My brother in law wants to sell his Suzuki Marauder 125 and bike gear as he no longer needs to ride to work.
It is in Worcester though so might be a bit too far for you.

Cheers 360beast, but looks as though i am picking one up tomorrow, a tad nearer home, but much obliged! i can't see his bike hanging around for too long, there seems to be a demand for the 125 size, although the guy i am buying from said there have been a great deal of messers! Thanks again.

What’s stopping you making one from a bit of gasket paper?

What’s stopping you making one from a bit of gasket paper? That was my first thought, some though, my guzzi included have a rubberised gasket that sits in a groove.

Because so far, according to a couple of bike dealers, the rubber one is the best so far that does not perish as quickly as other materials? just spoken to another company who think they can help? So for now....i have closed the lid on my box of hammers.

so! the latest news is this....Sinnis no longer produce the gasket for the 2015 model, no-one in the country can supply one, and i even tried San Francisco as the part number came up on Google!...They do not supply them! So the bike is going to have a different carb fitted and at least this way, it will work, Tried to do it the easy way but this turned out to be a total waste of time. At least i will be able to get out on the road and build up a few miles along with some experience before my test. Thanks to all for the support.
