I was wondering this today after seeing a mk5 transit, how long until second generation transits go down the route of the mk1/mk2 transits? How long untill they all become really expensive or all event only vehicles? I’ve been seeing less and less mk6/7s, so I guess it’s not far off?

Better buy them all up now while they are still cheap disposable vehicles then.

I've got a mk6, don't see many on the road around my way. The mk6 was very prone to rust so many were thrown away when they needed welding, I welded mine up myself, it needed both rear inner wheel arch tubs and some patches in the floor. I'm going to repaint it this year to keep it in good fettle, it takes a beating as I'm a high reach window cleaner so there's an 800l water tank in the back.

Have you looked for a decent lwb mk3 lately? I'm looking for s V6 twinwheeler van and there are way more mk1&2 than 3s available!! Can't find one that isn't a camper or silly lots of money. The rarest would be the Mk4 as they only did them for a few years, The Mk3 LWB was the last of the classic Ford vans, beam axle front and cart springs all round! |

I own a Mk5 SWB Semi High Roof. Have done quite a bit of welding to it incl new wings, front arches and sills. Apart from the scabby paintwork it is now rust free. When I bought it 10 years ago they were cheap as chips. Last time I looked the cheapest was around 2k. Occasionally get asked if I want to sell it. Just keeps going and going. 2.5DI Engines are good for 300K -400K if looked after. Took me 3 years to find a rust free side door. Only problem with it is I cant go inside the M25 without paying the low emission charge of £100 per day.

With Newcastle being the latest in a long line of other cities/towns now carrying out emission zone consultations, there soon wont be anywhere you can take/drive them. So unless you have a barn to store them in until they reach the exempt status of 40 years old, what was common only a few years ago will become extinct very quickly. |

I've got a nice ish mk3 lwb chassis cab that I'm restoring at a snail's pace. Hoping it will be worth something when it's done as they arnt really worth a whole lot now. Once the get tax exemption and all that it will help I think.
At the moment they arnt a cheap thing to own as you struggle to get decent insurance and tax is high too.

That’s what I was thinking as well, the only hope is that cities implementing the the emission charges/bans only focus on city centres or exempt vehicles over a certain age. But I doubt it, shame really, but when there worth more than they are now people will be kicking themselves. |

Quite a few mk3's are getting sent to Africa, I see them regularly at the export yard near where I work. They're almost always absolutely rotten to hell and only fit for the crusher in my opinion but in a hot climate rust doesn't matter apparently.
