Paddy should do well if he likes it and stays, he is a funny guy, I thought Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff was a bit too quiet, but Chris is O.K. The Ethiopia trip was a good starter for the new series. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't totally hate watching him. I didn't exactly warm to him but he has potential. More potential than Flintoff IMHO. The problem is though they have no grounding for actually reporting on automotive at all. They can merely drive cars about and try to have a bit of banter. All the heavy lifting is going to need to be done by Harris. It's clear that there's no way at all Flintoff could have devised that twin fan bodge on the Porsche. At least witht he C/H/M line-up you had the sense that they might have struck upon the bodge to get them through even if they didn't explicitly show that thought process happening. In the case of Flintoff though it was clearly managed off-screen by the back-up crew and then they gave him the car back and told him to carry on driving it. Same thing when paddy said "On my Escort the steering rack was hanging off and the carburetor was all over the place, which is why I went with the twin Webers". Willing to bet a hundred quid he didn't actually know what twin Webers were when they were recording that ... he certainly seemed to be suggesting that he got rid of the carburetor problems by fitting.... two carburetors It's basically a car show by people who just drive cars and have no clue about them at all.

I though it was alright, I will give it a couple more goes, loved the McLaren +1 on the McLaren, I visit the Woking area quite a lot at the moment and I've seen a lot of McLaren's being driven around with 'covers' on presumably pre-delivery checks. Also a F40 just pootling about and a Testarossa. As for Top Gear if I'm in I'll watch it but won't make any special effort. I thought that Flintoff and McGuiness 'ganged-up' on Harris which was a bit unpleasant to watch and if he did keep that jumper on (I'm sure he took it off when the cameras were off him) that was pretty irresponsible. Ethiopia was spectacular, Top Gear and TGT are turning into travel shows with cars!

So glad somebody else thought that. I wasn't going to say anything but I found a few moments deeply unpleasant to watch in that respect. Really? More so than most of the Clarkson era? Towards the end of old new TG, I found Clarkson really quite tedious and irritating. He was always a gobshite but became just another oafish playground bully with endless jibes at May, with Hammond laughing at everything he did, funny or not. He seemed to wind his neck in a bit on TGT but his views on pretty much every subject are so far removed from mine that as soon as he starts pontificating I'm completely put off. I quite enjoyed last night's opener. The supercar thing still leaves me a bit cold but I imagine everyone on pistonheads loved it. There's definitely potential there.

So glad somebody else thought that. I wasn't going to say anything but I found a few moments deeply unpleasant to watch in that respect. Really? More so than most of the Clarkson era? In a way yes, but I have a short memory so I may have forgotten some of Clarkson's more brutal moments. I found the dynamic last night to be a bit ... hmmmm, almost real and tangible bullying as opposed to ragging each other for banter as a bonding ritual. They were probably all pre-planned moments designed to create the impression of bonding but I did personally feel it was a bit off-colour at times. They were ganging up on Harris in a way that felt borderline menacing. Even at the end of the Ethiopa sequence where they were pretending to cheer him on for making it was painfully patronising and framed him as clearly weaker than the two big lads from oop north. He actually looked like he'd had enough at that point. As the one member of the team who's presented the show before, and the only one witht he actual credibility to be presenting a car show, I think he ought to have been the one hazing the two newbies, not the other way round. And I don't care what programme, on what channel, at whatever time, and for whatever purpose.. nobody ever needs to see Flintoff straddling anybody being pinned down so he can attempt to dob his sweaty ballbag onto their face in a pair of three day old underpants in the gummy heat of Ethiopia. Menacing bullying or not, I just never ever want to see that image again.

Was not as good as I had hoped,But it wasnt quite as bad as I thought it might be, Never found Paddy funny, and Freddie is just lost,Chris is good but the ferrari bit was not really needed, like the mk2 escort and the mini neither of which broke down surprise surprise, older cars are way better than moderns! so I will give it a couple more episodes to settle down, but I fear if i forget its on I wont miss it , how about that statement for saying nothing usefull?

My only gripe is that we got told the lap times for the Ferrari and McLaren, but didn't see the laps. Other than that I enjoyed it.

well the banter is back, friends titting about in cars, which i think that was missing from borey > leblanc > harris. feels less scripted, more natural.
but agree with @quatermass, chris harris has way more credibility than to be the james may of the trio, they need to ease up

Well I thought it was brilliant, I had a laugh at a few bits, I don't see why people take it so seriously and don't just take it for what it is, a light hearted car show, I can't see what all the hate is about?
