Intending this to be a super short thread, but I need some input. I'm sorely tempted to buy a set of old 16" wheels for my MGB. I have a set of 15"s on it currently, and while I really like them, I've always wanted to push the envelope just a bit further. The offset is slightly more aggressive, and I'm not sure they'll quite fit inside the rear arches, but I would be willing to tuck the seam if it looks good enough. Will 16"s look too big on the B? Wheels in question: Current setup: Photoshopped to be lower than it is currently:

Probably certainly worth the risk of finding out. So id say no, they wont be too big, but I'm not sure how much tyre wall you'll be left with.

A few pics of this car came up a couple years ago, I think its running 16s from memory And a couple others randomly found Personally I'd say on a standard arched B, 16s look a little big, but it massively depends on the wheel style and ride height. I've been considering going for 16s when I go with Sebring arches as theres generally a better choice of wide tyres in 16" than 15" I do like the look of yours on the 15s but those 16s are a cool wheel also, if you've got them already, can't hurt to try Also rolling the lip on the rear arches is advised if the offset is more aggressive, plus maybe a panhard rod or similar to help the axle location as you can often find there will be less wheel to arch clearance on one side to the other!

I like the first brown one Adam. In my opinion.... why not. At worst, if it does not work, remove, sell, start again. Littlepixel on here or one of the other photoshop gurus may b be able to add some at no cost, to one of your photos, so you can try before you buy.

Personally I think the ride would be pap. Some of the suspension comes from the sidewall flex, they have a very low tyre pressure. It's ganna bounce round arl ower with four boulders on.

I´m no photoshop guru, but I know how to quote selectively. Photoshopped to be lower than it is currently: A few pics of this car came up a couple years ago, I think its running 16s from memory Comparing these I don´t see a reason for not working.

IMHO, the wheel offset will be the biggest thing to consider. Bear in mind that the N/S/R arch will be closer to the arch so that arch will need to be your reference point for the car. Naturally, the O/S/R wheel will be closer to the inner wheel arch. For me, 15s in a 6.5J are about right on a 195/60, and even they can run close. Personally I think the ride would be pap. Some of the suspension comes from the sidewall flex, they have a very low tyre pressure. It's ganna bounce round arl ower with four boulders on. People say that but sidewall is only part of the game. Wheel weight plays a big part too. My Merc has gone from 205/70R14s to 205/65R15s with no side effects. It may even be comfier now. The new wheels are I'd say around 30% lighter than the factory items. Everyone told me my MGB would drive like curse word on 225/50R15 wheels. I have one word for that. Wrong! I will not lie ; it was bad at first, but that was when I had the factory rubber bushings in that had seized in their respective mounts. When I went to SuperPro mounts it was almost enough as comfortable as my stock '72 car, but with much much more body control and grip ; it was lowered and on Spax all round . I'll be honest; the Spitfire 1500 I had on cheap poly bushes, Spax dampers and stock wheels drove worse .

I guess we'll find out in a few weeks I could not resist. Thanks for the input everyone! For me, 15s in a 6.5J are about right on a 195/60, and even they can run close. Current setup is 185/55 on 15x6.5 ET19. The only time they've rubbed was when I filled the car full of beer and tenting gear and a friend to go to a festival. New wheels are 16x6.5 ET12. I really love that they look super dishy but are actually a reasonable width, unlike all the cheap new reps of old wheels that only come in 8 or 9" widths. I am SO excited.
