Just had a chat with our TüV guy who works for TüV Rheinland He said what normally happens in cases like this is they check if the car is legal to drive in it's current state in the country it is from. The worst case for these lads is that VOSA/DVLA, on hand from the photos of the cars, can say that they are also illegal in UK (which in the case of the Mercedes would be pretty simple) that would mean they have to be recovered at the cost of the owner from Germany to England where (best case) the owner has to put it to a roadworthy standard and present it to VOSA at a testing centre. Or they get siezed and scrapped. From the photos the company that collected them are based 5 minutes walk from my flat. I think I will go over this evening on my way home and see if any of the lads there can help out (one of them drives a MK2 gti in Air) if anyone has contact to the owners feel free to point them my way and I can try and help them out. I understand that the modifications are daft but we have all played that game at some point. For me it was a very expensive one! One of the guys that has put a few appeals for help... instagram.com/h3y_hb?igshid=1aww69n1ehv4g

maybe they had just been observed on CCTV on the roads prior to the seizure? Apart from speed control cameras or road tax stations we don´t have cctv in germany. Maybe they should not have parked in a group that close to each other, then they would not have been stopped all I guess. So now they have to continue their travel in some boring cars - and not the cheapest rental cars.

All the negative comments on the mods done to these cars ... I just looked at the pictures from the RR weekend and there seems to be a lot of the same mods there but no negative comments ..strange Probably because one set moaned about betting pulled etc. while the other lot didn't. If they'd have gone away, and said 'Fair enough, we pushed the line a little' instead of a plea for money to assist them, and saying how the police were out for them in an area known for not tolerating modified cars, it may have been a different response . We've all done stupid things, and taken it on the chin. I thought a mate of mine was little unfair to be given 6 points for doing 80 in a 50 at 2am in the morning on the A45 in Rugby for those who know it. But, fair play to him. He took the points like a man, and said that it was probably time . It's all in the attitude .

The green merc owner tends to run risks with builds, I don't know the back story behind it but the tyre on the car he showed at ultimate stance - brown toyota tercel - was completely popped off the rim - I don't know whether this happened on the road or at the show itself. During the tat auction on saturday night Kev said they should have come to the weekender instead, ironically they did in 2018... candyshowroom.co.uk/blog/retro-rides-2018/I'm just glad that we're commenting on arrests caused by modifications rather than deaths. I don't know him personally, I just think he's just inadvertently crossed that fine line between a cool looking car and how to get away with it on the road. Can't blame the police at all but it is interesting that they were arrested whilst parked aired out at a service area - I wonder if they'd not have been spotted / seized if they'd left them parked at a higher ride height - or maybe they had just been observed on CCTV on the roads prior to the seizure? Probably got spotted hanging out of windows taking photos of sick camber??

I had a chat with the blokes at the place where the cars are being held yesterday. They said that the lads were just unlucky that they stopped at those particular services. That is where the police have there division to prevent racing and they saw the cars and got straight onto them.

I just looked at the pictures from the RR weekend and there seems to be a lot of the same mods there but no negative comments ..strange Can you provide some evidence of this? Cars modified in the same way that were at Weekender? I mean you can _say_ anything you want, be good to have some like for like comparisons. My personal take on this whole thing is as usual Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. They knew the risks of hastily modifying cars (that Merc was built in a week and it shows), then taking them across a country that prefers well built modified cars. Take it on the chin like a grown up. I ran no front plate in the UK for a few years on the Sunny, if I'd have got pulled I'd not have started a go fund me page for my costs, or bitched about it on the net, I knew the risks.

Street racing is quite a big problem here and quite a few innocent pedestrians have been killed by people having street races. Since the beginning of this year the police have enforced new laws and have a group who are looking out for such people. They have a division for drug crime too!

Okaaay? So they have a task force to deal with the so called car poser scene in cologne, too? I´ve heard of that from other cities like hamburg or stuttgart.
It was only yesterday that they confiscated a highly (+ illegally) modified mercedes g on russian plates in hamburg again, not for the first time.

They confiscated 120 high end cars in one sitting recently too. Their justification was that they said they believed that it was an illegal street race. Now they have a task force set up that will need to justify it's existence, I'd imagine that will become a more regular occurrence. I guess there are quite a few European rallys that make their way through Germany.

Hot wire I did say ..seems to be...I also agree big enough to do the crime big enough to do the time but this never seems to be the case. I didn't want to say which mods on which cars at the RR weekend as I like stance air ride camber low's some tire stretch but not lots and DON'T like negative comments on someone else's pride and joy but if you look at the pictures you can see all of these mods, my comments were not negative towards RR more negative towards the moaning about the mods, sorry if I had an opinion please keep up the moaning and I will keep my comments to myself. I agree with this .. My personal take on this whole thing is as usual Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.. And definitely this Take it on the chin like a grown up. if I'd have got pulled I'd not have started a go fund me page for my costs.
Is there not pictures of cars at RR with camber air ride and modified exhausts.

BTW, I got a ticket in Austria once. In a very small village near the Italian border.
I had parked my car wrong ( my mistake, I should have paid more attention ), and these cops rang doorbells on all the houses in that street until they found where I was visiting.
Then they stood and watched to make sure I'd park it correctly in the appropriate spot, and as soon as I started the car things got even more complicated.
They didn't like the satisfying bark of the sports exhaust on my vintage Fiat 850 for some reason...
I could have pointed out that I sneeze louder than that exhaust, but I thought it was better to avoid any further complications.
I just paid the fine, and moved on.
Those guys took it all very seriously...
Edit.
In those pre-united Europe days, I always felt really conscious of the fact that I was on their turf and that my foreign plates made me an easily identifiable target. And I never felt that more strongly or more hostile than in France...

A policeman came out while he was doing it too. Rest of us were across the street trying very hard to look like we weren't with our idiot mate.
