Now....any ideas how I can explain the missing mattress? Moths? Mice? You had a dream about eating marshmallows? Hmmm...the moth excuse “wont wash” with my missus (used it before) The “marshmallow gambit” is food for thought though (pun intended!) Trouble is that there is a lot of “brown staining ie rust and brake fluid” to be accounted for Whilst you (and anyone else bored enough to be reading this) are thinking of a way to save my bacon...let’s have a look at what I’ve been up to today The first order of business was to remove all the suspension components so we can work on a bare chassis.....I thought this best as I don't want ANY superfluous weight bearing down on what little remains of of our excuse for THE major structural component in an A series vehicle! austinpowers you mentioned “household furniture” don’t worry mate as the next job (after throwing a tarpaulin over the bodyshell thus disguising the mattress) was to press gang my beloved into lugging a couple of old bedroom cabinets into the workshop! That done she was then persuaded to “give me a lift with this chassis” as unsurprisingly Ive got a major backache after being a hero (idiot) lifting a 350 kg bodyshell the other day Pictures incoming!!

Ooph....not good eh? Oh well....believe it or not I'm going to press on with this as actually I think I can do it If I cant then who cares? I will have learnt a massive amount in the process...I have everything I need ie four square metres of steel...a decent welding set...a bloomin good workshop....and most importantly a very supportive and understanding wife.......who is actually not as bad as I always make her out to be In fact she is worse....much worse Only joking...she’s lovely Stay tuned...much more to come ...Ant

ouch, the ony comfort here besides the matress, is that the car looks to be made of fairly easy parts to replicate. By the looks of it , there are mainly box sections, even angles and not much profiles on the plates. I am confident that you will fix this, and keep on the good side of your wife.

Rivet some checkerplate on the bottom, trim the edges badly, smother in underseal: PERFECT.

gess ....thank You mate It is no exaggeration on my my part to say that your comment made my day! You see I’m one of those people who gets “hung up” on what other people think! Personally when I do this stuff...ie cutting big holes in order to reveal lots more rust I have to admit I do feel daunted So Your positivity could not have come at a better time I'm with you on this one....I think it can be done...if I take my time...think it through...I hope I can do it properly.....a new chassis is all very well but a new chassis is what everyone else does (I'm not criticising or judging those people) but for the first time in my life I have the time and the facilities to at least give it a try If I fail I’ll just take the easy way out (ie most sensible) and buy an “off the peg identikit chassis” Trouble is I wont be able to get it correctly registered in Hungary (where i live) as (quite correctly in my opinion) they would deem it to be “modified to the point of losing its original identity” Awkward..inconvenient...and very Hungarian..but also very correct in my humble opinion! Anyway so today was spent doing other stuff (non azu related) but I did manage to squeeze in a quick 3 hours stripping very very thick fifty two year old citroen factory applied underseal off the bodyshell After all what else would antopipac choose to do on the hottest day of the year so far in his 40 degree workshop than use a electric hot air gun and a blunt chisel

Looks like the under-seal did a pretty good job of protecting the underside of the car. As well as hiding the mattress.

Looks like the under-seal did a pretty good job of protecting the underside of the car. As well as hiding the mattress. Aha austinpowers you have seen through my subtle subterfuge.....after all a load of stripped underseal can hide a multitude of “mattress related sins” The underseal has indeed protected the 52 year old undercarriage very well indeed....I'm bloomin happy that i decided to strip it though...as everyone can see there is loads of surface rust in evidence.....I caught it just in time I reckon Also I'm confident that when the job is done all that mattress will need is a quick vac....a dose of febreze (other brands are available) and no one will ever know

Yaaaay teaboy ...welcome back dude Ive neglected my threads cos you see I was suffering “winter sadness” but now I'm feeling its time for some “summer madness” and I'm going to “get down on it” and “cherish” all my retro rides threads and corresponding projects...although I am slightly worried about having to lift the bodyshell back on to the completed chassis ...after all “who’s going to take the weight ?” And don't stress about the mattress....she will never find out.....I'm smarter than that And besides I wear the trousers in this household

I was suffering “winter sadness” SAD sucks, for me vitamine D helps a lot Hi Tazzy The vitamin d tip is proven and valid....I just don't get enough...the foods that contain it are either stuff i don't like or cant eat (diabetes) This coming winter ill be giving the supplements a go.....plus I am finally buying a sad (seasonal affective disorder )lamp as one of the best ways to get your vitamin d is via sunlight....which is in short supply in my neck of the woods for most of the year.....so far the best help Ive found is exercise..I find cycling to be a massive help....i hate the whole rigmarole of getting ready...wheres my lights/helmet etc etc...but once I'm out there..... Anyway its all important stuff so if anyone else has any tips for helping us to get through the winter blues please feel free to let is know Oh and just one more thing...this forum and the people on it really made a differance to me and my mood last winter.....I made one amusing /tongue in cheek post which made people laugh and my way was set
