I must be going soft. I was going to agree with you grizz, and then I saw the pics! My sentiments are similar to Dean's, but I did always like them. Their conduct was a little curse word and it was effectively taken from Rover, but Rover back then had legacy issues compromising them then, which like many of its products, would have compromised the Mini, a little like another brand in the press lately... I've driven a Mini and liked them then. The Clio 172 was the nicer car to drive, but the Mini was the nicer car to sit in, whilst still being fun, and the Cooper S of course bought along pace and a nice whine along to it.

Oh Grizz A guy at work just said I can have a low mileage 03 plate for a hundred quid the original plan was to MOT it then sell it for a quick profit but......now you have really got me thinking cos at that price it really doesn't matter what I do to it. I do like the simple mods like slightly lower and nice rims. I think you should drive it down to Grizz Towers and leave it here. While I call you a mini cab to get you to the station after we had a decent BBQ. That certainly sounds like a winning price for a car with fun potential. How bad is it for £100.00 Hope you get to play with it and show us. In fact......... We are waiting for a few photos from you spudgun

I had issues at the time with the styling (and sizing) of newmini, and also didn't like the treatment of mini-focused business? Did this also apply to clubs at one point as well?
Styling is OK, except the black "waistband" around the windows. However, I know I could get around that by having a black one! I wonder if anyone has sprayed or wrapped over the glass to emphasise the pillars?
What I could not ever overlook enough to buy one, is the dinner plate dash! If I was having my ultimate classic mini built for me, I'd definitely have the centre dash with the combined speedo/fuel gauge, but the newmini one is massively out of proportion, it looks awful!

Do i seem to remember they trademarked MINI (capital letters), not mini, or Mini or something like that?

When they were new I hated them passionately. I was an avid classic owner and I thought they were awful. I remember going to a local hang out and there was a new MCS keeping up with a sapphire Cosworth which was very impressive at the time, however I still dismissed them as awful.
Now I own a 1967 Cooper, a modified 2006 JCW MCS, bought a 2006 Mini Cooper for my better half and have a new 2019 Countryman.
I think they are excellent!

MOT has not long expired but I don't think it would take much but at that price I cannot lose. I reckon a few more conversations and a visit to get pics are in order over the next week but I will update as it happens. Its strange I have only just started this job but no matter where I work I always end up with more cars

I had a 51 plate MINI One when they first came out (and went to lots of shows but never entered the concours), then an 04 Cooper S which was great fun (I had classic minis at the same time).
As well as a supercharger, an important difference between one/Cooper and S is the gearbox - the S gets a six speed Getrag but the early one/coopers had a weak five speed midland box.

I’m a fan after seeing one randomly on a journey slammed on Corvette Salad Shooters, not this one but you get the idea

I think they are a great little car. I owned this one abou 10 years ago, it was one of the early (Supercharged) Cooper S's and it went like stink. On my old commute to work is a great bit of road across Ranmore Common in Surrey on a windy, hilly, B road. Very little could stay with the Mini on roads like that. Now they are cheap(ish) I'd definitely consider another one to play about with.

I worked in Dorking for a bit and regulaly used it to get to Bookham or Horsley. I drove a sorted MG ZS 2.5 across it a couple of times. I can only imagine what a MINI would be like across it

I have a 2012 Clubman cooper D,I love it as it is and for what it is,no plans to sell or modify it in the foreseeable future.I'm always happy to see how others interpret them, the from the factory vans are destined for cult status I would think. mine is practical, quick and has 3 querky doors, what's not to like? they are a new car with retro styling,no different from the new beetle or fiat 500 if you look at them in that way,to compare them to the cheap microcars their styling is lifted from seems foolish... I do love the Nissan Cube,I nearly bought one,but it lacked querky doors. 🤔 Anyone for camping?

Going by the photos in his thread, I’d have one! The cooper s I always thought would be a fun car, especially with the charger whine to go with it! But even a naturally aspirated one looking like some in this thread would be pretty cool! Especially at the price bracket they’ve dropped into

Speaking of cup holders, I bought a bottle of wine a couple of days ago, and concerned about it rolling about on the front seat/floor of my Mini, I jammed it into the cup holder behind the handbrake. It remained upright despite some bumpy, winding country roads. Which made up for the back box falling off.
