^ A guy had one of those that took well over a year to sell on the VZI forum. It was a very nice car, fully loaded, but I always think of the exit plan with these cars ie. who are you going to sell it to when you've had enough!

Accord Type R seem to be available for under £3k, is there a better all round option than that for the £? Great chassis, but not particularly quick. I’d like another, but better options about if power/performance is what you’re looking for. I realise this forum is all about modifying cars but I like them stock. I've been looking at these Type R's for a while now and can't see anything equivalent to them? Was there ever a Toyota version that was on general release in the UK? Camry's were never pokey afaik.

^ I like that, like it a lot.
Never owned an Alfa (could be a good or bad omen). Not many around (tick box) Subtle (tick box) Could kick a$$ (pretty much) - tick box.
Good choice, and 2000 so just before the vehicle tax hike.

Don’t know why I didn’t think about this sooner. Saab 9000 was also available as a saloon, not as many sold as the hatch, but I understand the shell was stiffer than the hatch. Also an early 9-5 saloon as mentioned by Adam73bgt earlier. A 9000 Griffin saloon is quick and can be made to go very quickly; same with the 9-5. You wouldn’t need to spend anything like £5k to get a very tidy one of either with money to spend on some hardware. If you get a 9-5 Aero, the early ones are quoted as 230bhp. If you fit a 3.5 bar fpr and the get the ECU’s remapped for c. £70 by Saabnoob (on the U.K. Saab’s forum) you’ll have 275 bhp.
When I had my 9-5 I accidentally bought a 3” down pipe, bigger FMIC on top of the remap. The local Saab specialist had a black S reg saloon, black steels on the lowered Aero suspension. Proper ‘cop spec’ car and buttons to buy. Throw some poly bushes on it, make sure the dampers have some life in them, and enjoy surprising hot hatch drivers.
