Volvo 850 T5 CD Estate, 225+ BHP, 1997, P. Reg, Auto, Low Mileage (159 629 miles). Last of the 850’s, registered 19/3/97. Service History (20 Volvo dealer/specialist service stamps). 5 Factory T5 Columba Alloy wheels (refurbished approx. 3 years ago) but still in excellent condition. 4 matching P7 Pirelli 205 x 50 x 16 tyres (the correct size/fit) with plenty of tread/life in them. Metallic grey, Leather interior, Electric memory power heated driver’s seat, Electric Windows x 4, Roof Rails, Electric Mirrors, Climate Control, Air-Con, Cruise Control, Factory Stereo with Alpine CD in boot. Roof Spoiler.
Full Logbook in my name and address. 2 sets of Keys/Fobs. Recent/fresh MOT (May 2020). Higher octane fuel always used. 3 previous owners, the last owner/enthusiast for 15 years. Ive owned this 850 for approx. 18 months, an travelled just 5000 miles in that time. Cambelt changed at 139 238 miles. A new Driveshaft/2 gaiters fitted last year. Classic Insurance, so a fully comp policy costs less than £200 per year. No Pets, a non-smokers car, no tow bar. These 850 T5’s are thin on the ground, look around, there are not many available. This is the CD spec, it’s the next model down from the very desirable 850 T5 R, so it can only really increase in value. Note - Previous owner had this chipped? But I have no written proof/Dyno read-outs/prints to prove this? However…I have owned another 850 T5, also an early C70 T5 GT (240 BHP) but both of those cars did not drive/feel as “aggressive” as this 850 T5!...So, a “Sleeper” with the potential to embarrass well known sports cars/hot hatches! This is not a show car, it does have blemishes/marks, an after all…it is over 22 years old. Study the photo’s, the car is bone dry in the pics, no professional valeting or detailing/polishing here, just a clean/dry car. Insured and taxed, so test drives are welcome. Reluctant sale, no Test Pilots or Joy Riders required. Priced to sell at just £1495. Texts are time consuming, so a phone call/chat is the better option. 07936 027216. I'm in Kent, approx. 20 miles from the Dartford Tunnel, near Maidstone.
Points to consider – Drivers side front wing shows signs of a small rust patch (a very common fault with the 850). Slight distortion in side of Bumper (below rust patch on drivers wing). Both front leather seats are worn/cracked, but no rips/holes (driver’s seat being the worst). Previous owner sourced a matching coloured Tailgate (Tailgate is from a V70) It’s a perfect fit, but the high level brake light(top of glass) is the giveaway, that it’s from a V70. 2 small indents in both drivers/passengers lower doors (just below door trim). Rust scab on rear of roof (size of a 10 pence piece). Drivers door card edge has small tears (I think previous owner used to catch the seat belt?). Battery is sluggish, when starting car. Scuff on corner of rear bumper (passenger side). Load cover no longer retracts (another common 850/V70 fault!)

Rust patch on wing. Plus slight distortion to side of bumper. 2 small indents to lower doors (drivers side).
Wear/Cracking to both front leather seats.
Scuff to corner of rear bumper.

That's a fantastic, clean car. I had a burgundy Estate back in 2013, and it was a lovely old thing.
The graphic equaliser on the stereo is cool, and the Turbo gauge on the dash just does it for me!
GLWS.

GLWS. Cheers for that. I had a burgandy 850 T5 saloon (many years ago) with just 70 000 miles! Lovely beast, but i much prefer the wagons/estates. That Turbo gauge on the dash was a nice touch, shame they deleted it for the V70/S70/C70's. A couple of extra pics.

Lovely. Is that a 960 in your profile picture? I missed out on a 3.0 24v Estate earlier this year, in that nice metallic purple colour they come in.

Cheers. Yes, thats my old 960 estate in my avatar/profile pic. I drove a 200 mile round trip to buy that 960...well, it was a real low mileage example, with just under 77000 miles, when i sold it. It was also the 3.0 engine too. Shame you missed out on that purple 960, thats a real nice colour to have.
If i had to choose between a 960 and an 850, it would be a very close call?? Both different animals(one RWD,the other FWD) but both great Volvos to own/drive.
The 960 just glides/cruises along, smooth as silk. But the 3.0 does have 204 BHP, so can surprise you when pushed! The 850 T5 can also cruise...............but its hard not to "hit the gas" now an again, which always leaves a big grin!

Yes, would love to own a 'big' Volvo.
Owned the 850 T5, 940 Estate 2.3 LPT, 1 Lady Owner V70 D5 and most recently a 2001 V70 T5. That T5 was a fast car and always put a grin on my face.
The older Volvos are solid, well-built machines, a bit like the old SAABs. New ones really don't do anything for me, and have no style to them. And some of the new ones are £65k+! Plenty of other cars I would rather spend that sort of money on (if I had that money, of course!).

Agreed, whats not to love about big Volvos...although ive never owned any Volvos made after 2000, i just don't like the look of modern/modernish Volvos.

I might regret asking!! What is like to drive? as in down swoopy A/B Roads? Not sure how to answer your question really? I'm mid 50's...my Boy Racer/Hero Driver days are long gone ...for the most part, i drive around with my Captain Sensible hat on (don't we all?!). Although i confess to driving this 850 more rapidly, than any other Volvo ive ever owned..............an ive owned heaps of Volvo's. It has standard brakes/pads/wheels/tyres/suspension, so its not like its "set up" like a rally spec car! There must have been several good reasons, why these 850's were used by the Cops/Plod, back in the day! Ive "pushed" the car a couple of times, it responded well...I never felt like the car was "getting away" from me, i never felt like - curse word, I'm in trouble here.
The fact that its a "sleeper" of sorts, an old P reg wagon(most young guys, in their hot hatches don't know what it is) must be one of the reasons why Ive embarrased a few hot hatches, M3/M5's, AMG Mercs etc.......................................either that, or none of em had the balls/skills to push it?!
The car is an auto box, it will lay rubber from standing start, it will lay rubber when on the move...it is, what it is.
But I'm just an "old wrinkly", what do i know!
Stay tuned...I have an update/sweetener to offer with this deal.

Adding a genuine Volvo front strut brace, in with this deal. Getting harder to find/come by, these Volvo 850/V70/S70/C70 strut braces. I didnt get much change out of £100, for this, when i bought it a couple of weeks ago. I took the pic tonight, an you can see that ive just placed the brace in position, its not connected at this point in time.

I mean when you're having one of those drives, does it feel planted, handle well with good steering feel? a drivers car something you can enjoy rather than it just being an "A to B" machine
Plod loved these! so they must be drivers cars.

Best offer ive had so far is £1250!....................................thats not quite enough to buy my 850 T5. Phone calls/Text offers are not gonna make it!
A "real offer" comes from someone, who is standing in front of me/the car, has the cash in their hand............................then i will listen to/consider such offers.
Been offered a couple of crazy/wibblepoo Part/Ex's (what would i want/do with a KIA?!) I would consider a Part/Ex...but please, no "basket cases", "non runners", "Buckets of Plop". Might end up keeping this, if my other Volvo estate sells 1st?...One has to go, cant make up my mind which one to keep, so have put both up for sale.
