Done a ferry road trip from Chester to Belfast last year which was ace. No mechanical issues at all.
Hoping to do a trip to the south of France and visit some vineyards this year - an homage to my great aunt and uncle who used the car to do that in the early 80s to get cheap wine!

Done a couple - Surrey to South Wales, ferry to Ireland and a tour of Ireland then home in an MG Metro which never missed a beat.
UK tour over a long weekend in a 1.6 Capri which I'd just got running after it had been sitting for a few years: Surrey to North Wales, N Wales to Newcastle, Newcastle to Cornwall (in one hit), Cornwall back to Surrey. One hell of a road test which the Capri passed with flying colours :-)

Currently driving a 1972 BMW 1602 as my daily. Don't ask about previous cars - there have been way too many and I stopped counting at 160!

Done a couple in my 1970 Mk3 Mini 1000. First was when I bought it. Lived in Malmo in Sweden at the time. Bought it in Vasteras (about an hour west of Stockholm) and drove it the 375 miles home. Behaved perfectly but wished I had checked the tyres. They were 24 years old...still no harm done. Moved back to the UK last year so drove it from Malmo, via Rotterdam, to Lancashire. Tyres replaced so no worries! Longest trip this year has been down to Pride of Longbridge and back. Fortunately the top speed of a fiftyish year old Mini 1000 is about the top speed of everybody on the M6. Anyway it now has its UK plates and will be out and about this year.

Similarly when I bought my '71 Wolseley 1300 in 2006, sight unseen on the strength of three photos. Went to where it was by public bus and drove the Wolseley home 450 km through the night. I saw no reason why this would not be a good idea. All I did was pump up the tyres cos couple of them were down to around 10 psi, and fill the petrol tank.
