Well this forum gives me a desire to own pretty much everything and anything! And very often the sales sections brings me close to owning whatever is cheap and local. Thanks to this forum i found myself in this: got the train across London to pick it up, £330, T5 auto with blue leather, 18" Lensos, lowered, update lights and tinted windows. IT. WAS. EPIC.......and very thirsty. Wish i'd never sold it

I grew up with all things BMC/BL, and that made me bias to anything up to the last of the Rover/MG range. Later when I went to watch banger racing this made me view many cars differently, and all of the supporting formulas also introduced me to cars I hadnt looked at before. This forum introduced me to obscure european cars, the unusual fords and VW's only available in certain countries, and a whole wealth of Japanese goodness. Afew years ago I would never have thought of owning anything remotely import-like, and although its not an import, or retro, my current daily choice is certainly influenced by this forum. And even though it isnt retro, i feel the same towards it as any classic ive owned in the past.

Most things of mine TBH! I've been on here now for around 13 years. That's pretty scary!
Prior to this forum I was very much a Ford man, and a BL man. I've however probably ended up buying many things as a result of this place and influences including the:
1976 Toyota Carina Coupe BMW E36 323i Coupe The W124 250D ; that car was quite a surprise ; I didn't expect to like it as much as I thought I would The S124 E320 Sportline ; These would have been considered way too thristy for me! Triumph Stag ; it was considered way too risky a car to own for me. Escort RS Turbo Series 1 ; I was always an S2 fan, and was almost pleased that S2s were cheaper to buy. Possibly even the E46 M3 in a strange way, despite it not being talked about on here much. Maybe even the 280SE. I'd have considered a 4.5 before, but the MPG would have made me flat out not consider it. 15MPG means that it does like a drink!

There are many cars I like but my "want" car list has not changed much. There are so many awesome cars here like Jaguars, Fiat's, most American stuff etc but although I love them and have a lot of respect for the owner and his/hers built I have no need to own them. Pretty boring hey...

. Great thread idea Danny. I would say that my choices have always been away from the norm, both retro and daily/company cars. A long time ago, like 27 years, when I started as a rep, I inherited a Nissan Skyline as company car, used more oil than petrol. When I replaced it, the norm was top of the range VW Jetta or Passats, or BMW 3 Series. I chose a Nissan Sentra (Sunny) four door, to loud groans from colleagues, WEIRDLY three months later there were three more, just in the Cape Town Office, I followed that with a Toyota Corolla 1.8 GLS. Then changed companies and bought an Opel Kaddett (Astra hatch) 1800iS which was an absolute rocket, and fully loaded. Over the years this has continued, weird cars vs colleagues who stick to the Luxo Barges. Currently a 1500 Zetec Diesel Focus Which I love. Retros........ You guys know the stuff I have had on here, before that there have been VW Beetles, Baywindow campers, Anglia 105E and many others. The Ford Taunus Transit. That Audi 80 GLS Estate that lives in a German museum now. Currently, Prozac which makes me grin many a day. Carries a load. Really can be driven enthusiastically

Having only had 3 non Fords before i joined here, wasnt so sure this place had swayed me too much. I did add a Skoda to my fleet, but that was only because it was there when i needed a car pdq.
More recently though, i have been on the lookout for a project that my son and dad can have a bit of fun with, and as i am the one insuring and using it, its more than likely gonna be a 90s Mondeo or Escort, but i have looked on the net for some Rovers, especially a 420 Touring, 600, 800 and 75/MG ZT, and that is driven by this place.
Maybe something will show up in this thread? All the very best, Geoff.

My current ride is one, that I never would have had on my radar before joining this forum: But german MOT will soon part us, since too much welding would be necessary plus a clutch asking to be changed louder every week after just 250kkms. So this wagon will most probably become a parts donor for MichaElWoodys girlfriend´s wagon. I would consider finding a second gen wagon R+, but looking for a job atm after my knees haunting me to quit my postman job much earlier than planned, I might be finding myself in a position with a company car. If I was allowed to chose one myself I would certainly go for the last real retro offered in germany today:

Never even knew these existed until I spotted this one for sale on here locally. It was cheap and in bits, couple of months later it was built and back on the road. (Sorry for the curse word pic but it's the only one I have on my phone). Another car I didn't know I needed until I saw it for sale on here. RV8 powered sports hatch. Really shouldn't of got rid of this car Most of the other random cool cars I've owned since moving away from vws have been more of the right place at the right time kinda thing, but these 2 were directly thanks to this forum.

Generally though 70's-90's JDM only weirdness is the best

By far and away this is my go-to car forum. I’ve always had eclectic tastes - first car was a 1961 Consul Mk 2 bought when both it and I were 14 years old. Since then I’ve had probably close to 100 cars which is about a fifth of what I’d have really liked. Some have been really good, others not so at the time. Like the Simca 1100 Special I accidentally set fire to. Quite like Simcas now. What has this forum done for me? I now know I should have been less disrespectful of early Japanese imports like the early 70’s Toyota CROWN coupe and estates a neighbour used to run. I should have had an ADO16 two door with a stripped interior and a period tuned motor. I should buy something pre war and build a hot rod. I should import a Scandinavian Cortina Mk 2 two door and put a rack and modern engine into it. I should find a way to persuade my OH that I should extend the garage enough to be able to fit a Vista Cruiser in it. I should never have sold my Imps or the Cortina Savage estate I had. Oh, and I really have to get another CX or XM one day. Not sure I’ve answered the exam question here, but thanks to all who post on here. Enough talk, here’s what the forum did encourage me to buy off here - current stalled project, 1955 Standard 10, rustier than it looked, will be a proper period looking cafe racer when it’s done.

Definitely my Trabi! I always had a soft spot for them, but never actually thought about owning one until I saw a couple of threads on here. Three years of ownership later!

I really want a mk5 cortina estate I would never think about one, or an estate but seeing what people do to cars that aren’t the best looking, most stylish makes me want one, the use it to take the family summer holidays down the sea side Next year or two hopefully have one. Although I have a desperate need that won’t go away for something American aswell, as I’ve had a few of the British fords

I blame you guys for my love of curse word! stuff your 250GTOs and Alfa Montreals - I now have urges to own all the curse word cars that nobody wants. everything has potential - absolutely, and this place has made me realise that with the right mods, i'm not alone - there are others out there with my illness.
