I don’t think he’s interested in clean air, he’s interested in making money from the normal motorist to pay for new buses and electric charging points for cabs and said bushes. Just my opinion but I have no faith, trust or belief in any of our Governemnts. Sorry to be a bit topical!

I do love a 2.5PI! It seems I timed this well!   However, I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. I only hope they leave 40 year old cars exempt from the ULEZ. Oddly enough, I think my M3 is exempt too, or at least it was on the T-Charge checker. My W124s? Nope, not the 250D or the E320T. |

I've been watching your car and drooling.
It just looks so classy and I wish I could afford a car like that. Those wheels look great and must drive miles better than similar cars of the era.

If you have told me a year ago that I'd have an E46 M3 and a Merc 280SE in my stable, I'd have said you were half BSing me! I couldn't quite believe when I got the M3 TBH, and getting the Merc felt like the next leap for different reasons! I'm still not quite sure how it happened but I am thankful to a good bunch of guys I know  . Until this car, the best old car I drove a modified Triumph MkI 2.5 PI running Chris Witor running gear (KYB Gas-A-Just dampers, CW springs, SuperFlex bushes). It was just lovely! This is probably the only car is usurp that. Sure, the Triumph was agile in its own way, but for a steering boxed and swing axled car, the Merc is very surprising! I am surprised at how much I have been throwing it about! It rols but it is gracious with it . Motorways are very accomplished. I've been in a friend's W114 250 and I must say they drive very well. That IRS suspension in those lived right up until the W123. |

They'll spot this 'loophole' and ban anything over 10 years old shortly or go the Paris route and make people exhibit which Euro standard the car meets and only allow certain levels below the latest (E6 ?) to go in on certain days.
You can imagine them in their secret lair;
"Yes comrade Mayor phase 1 of the plan in place, they'll all buy old cars and then we ban them, bwahaahaaa...."

I wonder what the smelliest, most polluting exempt vehicle is? Because id love to choose that and drive it around central London all day long just because.

.....and leave it running outside mr mayors house...if he even lives in london. as far as smell goes it will need to be pretty epic to out-do the stench from the rotting corpse of democracy festering at westminster!

You'd still get caught by the congestion charge  For those living outside London, you get taxed twice for the same drive, once for congestion and once for emissions. |
