Its not really limiting, you can still override it by pressing the accelerator further.
I have had the system on a couple of cars, the mapping is not always up to date so when they move 30 zone out it often still tells you it is 50 or 60 and the camera picks up the signs on the back of trucks sometimes.
The emergency braking is a pretty good idea but it does often trigger the warning wrongly such as when the car in front pulls into a slip road.

Even if there were proper limiters in place, play around the rules, change the outer circumference of your wheels or diff ratio and you'll have that 1-2mph you'll need xD

We will get it. Another nail in the coffin of freedom  Override it and it will tell your insurance company - too many overrides and your insurance will go up/be void. Linked to your sat nav, so speeding fines automated. Police will be able to shut your car down remotely, you might as well go by bus |

Some lorries already have emergency braking systems. Though I gather it is causing a few issues through "false" incidents if you like. I don't have lorry new enough to worry about that atm. I have no doubt it will get more refined as time goes on. As for the limiter thing well it was only a matter of time before that came in. Again like the driverless cars they keep banging on about, for years you will have a mix of the old and the new together, so can still see plenty of road rage incidents and accidents happening until we're all on the same page.

on the plus side , it will keep second hand values up as nobody will want big brother condsantly poking them. as soon as tax revenue from new car sales falls off a cliff see how quickly its dumped....if it even gets legislated as i understand its just a proposal at the moment. i just cant see it happening.

it is of no concern for most of us on here, given this is for new production vehicles. All of our cars were new once, and I plan to still be driving when todays new cars are old. Other than that, we will be sharing the roads with them and the fast lanes will be thoroughly clogged with people doing 0.5mph faster than the car beside them because they can. Think of how we sometimes get that now with lorries taking a couple of miles to get past each other and then think that it will be all lanes and most of the vehicles on the road doing the same thing. |

My van already has the auto brakes, they're way too nervous, jam on way too eagerly which then makes you panic as its unexpected.

They were talking about this a few years ago and wanted it on bikes as well ffs.
It will come in as it will happen in the EU and whether or not were are in, we will comply with EU legislation for trading purposes.

If it's anything like the unhackable software on the R35 GTR when it was released, clever people will have it sussed and hacked within a day of it being released anyway. Nothing for us to worry about for a few years yet...

I’m really not a fan of all these new driving aids, in my opinion some are more dangerous than not having it.
I recently drove a new car with lane assist, I went to overtake a truck on a bit of dual carriageway and as I started to pull out the lane assist kicked in and pulled the steering wheel out of my hand back into the lane I was exiting. It was a development car so may not of been working 100% but even still I prefer to be in control without computers trying to drive for me.

They wont take it off you but they will find ways to 'encourage' you to get rid of it. Higher taxes, limited usage, ULEZ zones where it will be too expensive to drive in, there are so many ways to wear you down. |

Yup, friend test drove a new fiesta, lane assist on and pulled out to give cyclist room, car pulled straight back in nearly hitting the cyclist, he had to really force the wheel to not hit them. |

Mark how will it work for your Anglia as is it not treated as a new car after having been through the BIVA or does the chassis still keep it's original build year?
Driver aids in cars make for lazy even more inconsiderate drivers who don't bother to think as they drive, it's bad enough at the moment no need to make it worse.

Pete, it's still rated on emissions for the ULEZ so it's still banned from city centres unless I pay the charge even though on all other fronts it's a 2018 car.

My biggest worry with this - theres going to have to be a fairly hefty rise in taxes to compensate for the lost revenue from speeding fines - (not that the fines are anything to do with revenue of course, yea right)
