My Daughter and I were on our way to the park today when a line of VW Campers trundled past us. It took me a few minutes to figure out where they were off to and then about another ten minutes to convince a five year old who is expecting to go to the park that we should first go to a car show 😂 Pretty much all of my pictures were prompted by the aforementioned five year old so you’ll probably pick up on the theme of loud colours. We spotted these two walking from the car park to the main building. Imogen loves a purple car so was thrilled to find that the second old car we saw was purple 😂 Once we were in there she was on a mission to find only the very brightest cars and insist I take photos of them! She spotted this next to the VolksWorld magazine stand. Apparently she wants one! We carried on round and amazingly I was allowed to picture some non lairy cars! This one I loved! Very simple and it just works. This was James Mays Beach Buggy from The Grand Tour. See! The brightness resumes. I absolutely loved this 914!! Imogen absolutely loved this pink bus! This DJ Bus was a bit different. We had to stand there and watch him for a good five minutes 😂 I have never been much of a Porsche fan but this looked just right! This didn’t! This was a bit different so caught our attention. I’d heard of this Allegro bodied Beetle floorpan thing but never actually seen it. I quite like it. Love the badge though! Couple of beach buggies. Some more randoms. This almost blended into the floor! A giant Matchbox Buggy! I’ve always loved a Notch! More randoms. This made me chuckle. It was stuck on the back of a Bus. This was in the entrance hall. I tried to get a picture on the way in but couldn’t. This was the best I could manage on the way out! The brightest of brightly coloured cars! This was in the car park. I don’t know why but it looked just right to me! £5500 though!!!! Imogen didn’t mind this one. But apparently this one was “disgusting Daddy!” The final interesting one we spotted on the way back to the car. Imogen was insistent on having a photo with it and then to my surprise put her fingers up in the VW scene pose without any prompting!! That’s it. We managed to walk round the whole show in about 45 minutes. That included stopping for pictures, looking at some of the stalls, watching the DJ Bus and wandering around the car park. If anyone else wants to add their pictures then feel free

Amazing to see the Chris Jory oval (third picture) resurrected and better than ever. Winner of Europes most beautiful VW back at Bug Jam 1 and a legendary car.

Great haul of pictures for an impromptu visit . We managed to spend rather longer there but my daughter agrees with your Imogen in that the pink bus with the little plastic pigs was the best in show

It looks like you’re little one is destined for air cooled I haven’t been for at least 5 years. I was going every year at one point but started noticing that a lot of the cars were the same year in, year out. With a long break I was pleased to see it all looking a little different this year

It was all getting very samey, was nice to see it all again this year with some fresh eyes, although the scene as a whole seems to have stopped where it was about ten years ago. I have a thought as to why this may be and I'm totally going to record a video about it ! Great set of photos too.

I have a thought as to why this may be and I'm totally going to record a video about it ! It's because the VW scene is sneeringly unaccepting of new trends. It's got it's five or so "looks" that were established yonks ago and doesn't want any more, thanks very much. It's also, contrary to what one might be led to believe, utterly unwelcoming of newcomers... at least in cyberspace. I've been around a while now and joined many single-interest forums but I've never felt so much like a pork pie at a bar mitzvah as trying to "get in" on VW forums. All the people on there have been on there for 15 years minimum, know each other intimately, and have grown jaded, entrenched in the same little circles and indescribably bored of answering the same inane questions from noobs. So they don't, you just get ignored or treated with contempt*. I've had more in-depth and helpful responses to requests for advice here, a general non-specific club, than on the forums supposedly dedicated to the damned things. Seriously, those who've met me will no doubt attest to my errm, robust personality but joining a VW forum is like walking into the Slaughtered Lamb. There are only so many stony silences and icy glares you can tolerate before crawling up your own to die Which is weird because meet VWistas at shows and such and they're generally very chatty and welcoming. But in an age when most introductions to any scene/vibe/culture are online, I'm not surprised newcomers think "I don't need to crawl through this much crud for acceptance" and go off to do their own thing. People are treated with less contempt as prospects for backpatch clubs * with certain exceptions, most of whom are also on here anyway

I think its fair to say that this forum think its cool because its different, but does it get shunned by the VW scene because its different, not a VW, or is it its wheel choice that saves it? The VW scene could be viewed like the mini scene, like for like cars of the same type are going to inspire new owners, so there are bound to be similarities between cars, way back when I went to Mini shows everyone wanted their car to look like a Cooper, I didnt, and id expect today you could go to a mini show and walk round a sea of similer cars, then a car with new ideas would stand out (like a sore thumb?) but personally I was impressed with the variety when I attended last year. If I were to build a VW id like to think Id build something different, but its bound to be like another VW at a show in some way or other. Its fair to say that the VW scene is quite healthy and I cant be negative about that.

I think the rat-look/patina influence has been a big 'middle finger' to the snobbery that has been mentioned above.
I went and was surprised how many rat-looks/patina cars were in the hall. Previously it has been cheque-book/highly polished trailer queens.
Now this could be for a number of reasons, including:- a) the shiny brigade couldn't be arsed. b) there's a lack of new cars coming on to the scene. c) This year was a patina/rat-look theme.
Personally I don't like the shiny, but I can appreciate the effort that's gone into them, not so much the £££ though!

This one I loved! Very simple and it just works. The blue one behind it is my cousins car Subtle and utterly astonishing level of detail. Won a trophy and is set for a Volksworld feature
