Ok thanks, i may have made a fool of myself here.....I've just read page 1 again and realized the cardboard is cut matching the curved edge of the door. The lines are drawn to ensure the cardboard always returns to the exact same place.
Note to self - when sneakily reading RR at work, always try to expand the window fully to see the whole picture (metaphorically speaking or not!)

I somehow missed this entire thread... Serves me for daily checking of just the bookmarks and only periodically checking to see if there's something new to follow. Lesson learned!
I can only say what a beautiful sleek and clean car! And what great work again from Grumpy. Alas we've come to expect nothing less obviously, but it has to be said. The colour match is excellent and the full car is presented superbly by it. I'm also very impressed by the polishing stages. This makes me feel I should at least machine polish the granada one time. But I don't yet have the confidence. I'm sure it would shine even more then.
Well done Grump and I can't wait to see the next one, whatever it'll be (although I love my fords, ;-0 ).

Stunning motor! I think I read your story on PistonHeads.
Great story too. An Uncle of mine was a concessionaire for BMW back int the 70’s in Dorset and he delivered a few E3’s to the Met. He said He had the best drive up to London to deliver them. Apparently everyone got out of his way haha.
What are parts like to get for them? I know the 2002 is well served but is the E3 the same?

Which dealer did he work for? Does he have any info or pictures from his time there?
My car was sold by Dick Lovett BMW in Swindon to the first owner, registered new on 1st December 1972 with the plate BMW250L. This was in the days that registrations were issued by the local Councils and ‘B’ was random and ‘MW’ was the Wiltshire identifier - a coincidence, maybe, maybe not. The first owners were Hillier Funeral Sevices in Swindon - apparently it was the MD’s car not used for the business. I contacted them and had a great email back from the MD (who was by them retired) and he remembered the car fondly and told me he’d travelled extensively in Europe, including a winter aid mission which took him across the snowy Alps towing a trailer. Unfortunately he couldn’t find any pictures of the car, which was a shame.

Wow, that is a great bit of history on your car.
My Auntie and Uncle owned Emblem Sports Cars near Blandford, Dorset. In the 70’s it was a BMW and Lotus dealer but late 70’s they became a Ferrari dealership.
I think the Dorset reg was ‘PR’ or ‘LJ’ I think. I’ll see if my auntie has any photos of the E3’s.

My first ever BMW, which I bought when I was 18 and kept for the best part of 14 years was a Black 1994 E36 Coupe, which was supplied new by Dick Lovett, Swindon. I kept the original dealer plates off it. Also, I once had a 1984 MK3 Escort GL Cabriolet, which came with a massive stack of history, and the original owner was a funeral company. I did contact them to see if they had any more information on it or old photos, but no one there had any recollection of it.

I'm fairly sure I used to own this, albe it briefly. I bought it just outside Swindon with a siezed engine and a boot full of spares. Mine was black and I thought the reg was BMW 750L, but may be just thinking of the 750iL models. At the time, I was even more poor than now, so could never save enough to do anything with it. Sold it to a guy who collected in a ex Honda F1 Sprinter van, pretty sure he worked or did work for them. Also sold him an engine from an E28 M535i I had as well. Does any of that sound familiar to you, or from who you got it from??
