Without really applying my tiny little mind. 18k? Don't need that. How about less than ten, may be even eight? 1. Lexus LS430. 2. Mazda MX5. I know the LS & 5 have been done to death but still...

For Daily activities, 1990 ZR-1. Very reliable mechanically. For weekend fun, one 2 one is double fun!

I don't mean to boast, but in some ways, I am already there. The fun car? The E46 M3. Yes, it may not be fun to some, but to many, it surely is. It can also be a daily, but with it falling into the 'modern classic' territory and prices firming up now, it has made me question using it. It's a shame as it's an awesome, albeit pricey in some ways (tyres, maintenance more than MPG etc.) daily to run, which is surprisingly practical. These days, if I am driving it long distance or to a mate's I always now really enjoy the occasion. It can test you a little, but it's got the quality the 944 Turbo had, but without the poison chalice (i.e the snap-off oversteer without warning! : both my S2 and my sorted Turbo had this trait and I did semi-pay the price with one of them). Am I smitten with it? Yes. I'd say that these days, a good one is £10k+ from what I've seen, and not what people say. At £6k around 5 years ago, they really were quite a bargain! Back then, £700 insurance, even with full NCB put me off buying one, in addition to tyre prices. So that's one done.£5k? Pick one of the other cars I own. I'll say the W124, as it's the more dailyable car of the two, more dailyable than the M3 if I am being honest! Rust does worry me about it being a daily, but I do hose off the salt wherever I can . Otherwise? Mondeo 2.5T. For £3-4k, there are not that many cars out there that offer the thrills and practicality for the bang per buck, while staying reliable and relatively cheap to run. That just about gets you into the £18k category. I guess I am more of one for dailying my entire fleet when wanted and when necessary. My M3 has had to be off the road at times, so, it's nice to not have a fun car which you will detest for the commute ; many fall foul here and I have too. For me, it's always nice to strike the balance between the two cars and do it right. I think with £18k there are other choices which can do it, as outlined in this thread. This, ableit with bias for the pair of us . Like you, I learned the hard way at times that it's always not possible as my thread outlines; I was a one car owner for around 2 years before I broke back to my old ways. I was lucky then that I didn't have a commute to work, which was a huge advtange. Now, I'd be screwed; two cars going wrong will eventually catch me out however I'm sure.

Honestly, they aren't a very well known car. A lot of people myself included found out about a lot of Japanese performance cars through games like Gran Turismo and Tokyo Extreme Racer. The Century just didn't get the same sort of exposure, apart from videos from Doug Demuro and Regular Car Reviews,

I've been looking at this thread, since VT posted it, struggling to narrow it down. There's so many options I could choose it's melting my brain trying to think.

Just have a a few goes at it for fun! I could probably sit here and do it all day. But I've had a think, and this is my current choice. I've chosen this as the toy because 15 years on here looking at stuff like this, it rubs off you know, plus I've only had one Japanese car, and if I'm honest I like the boso/ shakotan/ garochan look (apologies for terrible spelling, if I've even got the words correct in the first place. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F183657089117Now for the daily. I need something to fit the family in, go to the tip and bring stuff home from IKEA. Something like this would be perfect. tanks-alot.co.uk/product/alvis-stalwart-fv620/
