Annoyingly my son isn't that bothered about car's, so finding common ground may become an issue when he's older lol. (My book of choice as a child was Haynes manuals lol) That said, when my mk2 finally made it to our new house, the first thing he did was give it a hug.

I took my Son to his first car show when he was two months old and he's been going to them ever since . He's 22 this year and is just as mad about cars as I am and currently owns these two plus another spare Lupo Sport parts car . His favourite show is the Gathering 😁

My 5 year old Daughter has a mild interest in cars. She likes to come and supervise for a bit when I’m working on the van or the Golf but her interest is generally short lived and she finds something else to do. However seeing as she’s only 5 I still hold out hope. She enjoys going to Brands Hatch to watch the touring cars and likes watching F1, Touring Cars and MotoGP on tv.

They say you should never meet your heroes.. Well I meet mine daily. Ever since I was a toddler I worshipped my dad, I learnt to drive (and powerslide) on his Lap in his Autograss special, he made me Go-carts from scratch, and his garage was my playground. I was learning the differences between UNF, BSW, AF and metric spanners when my school friends were kicking footballs and eating their own snot. So my tale is the opposite of the original poster, I'm the kid. My dad taught me how to fix a problem, when you hadn't really the right tools, the right parts, or the right amount of available time. That ability to think on my feet, adapt -improvise- overcome has stood me in good stead ever since.

My dad is a petrolhead. I remember back in the very early 80s (I was born in '77) when he was restoring his Frogeye that mum would take us to church on a Sunday morning and he'd get to stay at home and work on the car. That double annoyed me! He let me look at his early Custom Car mags (before I'd even worked out what norks were!), he used to take me out of school for the day to go to Wales for the RAC rally, he got me into racing r/c cars, he encouraged me to get something retro for my first car, showed me how to restore it. He even crewed for my drag car and "sponsored" me when I was short of cash.
Now my lad is three he's the same as I was. I was very conscious about not pushing him into having cars as his main interest, but he loves them anyway! His favourite films are the Disney Cars series, and he's always playing with the diecast toys. He's been going to car shows since he was tiny and if he sees black number plates it's automatically a "cool car!" When he saw my Beetle on the drag strip on YouTube he looked and declared "it's a daddy car!" then "it's MY daddy car!"

I've got 2 boys. One is 13 and the other is 8. The eldest is into cars, but only super cars he talks about Lambo's, Ferrari 's GTR's etc reeling off names number figures and model years which I have no idea about. He navigates with me in the rally car and this year he will be driving himself when he turns 14. He never comes out the garage though. He's either in his room on the Xbox or out with his mates( which I don't mind). This week he has decided what subjects he's taking for GCSE. One of the subjects he's opted for is engineering so today he's been out the garage with me learning what all the tools are called, what they do, how to use them and how they try to kill you. We went through bolts, threads, measuring and finished off with a play with the MIG set welding bits of scrap and writing his name. He seemed to enjoy. The youngest is totally different and is always out the garage with me. He's not really into cars, but loves the Cortina I've been building over the last few years. He tells everyone it's his He is into making things and has his own tool box, battery drill and walks around wearing my tool belt ( with every tool that will fit in it). He loves the MIG set. He thinks he's a coded welder. In reality he's just pulling the trigger and I'm moving the gun around whilst holding the swan neck. So far together we've made a star tea light holder for his mother for Christmas, a bit of modern art that was all his design made from a bit of old exhaust and some other scrap and yesterday we built a sword from scrap as he thinks he's an assassin ( assassin creed type assassin), all his design. I'm hoping both their interest in my interest will grow but I don't want to push them. me and the eldest completing last year
