Sunday the 10th was the annual Picnic at Hanging Rock. This is Hanging Rock: which is the Hanging Rock that is in the book / film “Picnic at Hanging Rock” (can you see what the organisers did?). As usual I took too many photos but then there were probably close to 1500 cars there. I’ve chosen a selection of pics which I hope show interesting stuff and captures the diversity on show. They are in the order I took them, except for my car of the show which was one of the first things I took a pic of – it is at the end. The sun was out and there are trees with shadows, so some of the lighting is a bit off. A rather nice green Sandman Mad Max Pursuit Special replica (I was lucky to get a pic with almost no one in it) Torana SLR 5000 Tough Monaro Camaro Mr Cady Mk1 Escort Not an HB Viva but an HB Torana (which is actually an HB Viva with a different grille, headlamps, wheel trims and badges): series 1 cars used imported bodies, from 69 onwards they used locally produced bodies. Racy Torana Pantera and Healey Bill the Falcon coupe: bought by the current owner in 1982 when he was 17 and has been a family and work car since then. It has been recently restored. Charger The Sandman Club was there so there were a lot of Sandmans / Sandmen. Orange panel van (I want one of these) Green panel van Yellow panel van Red ute Red ute, Black ute

This is a 1965 Nissan Silvia CSP311. They only made 554 of these, and only 49 were exported to Australia. They use hand crafted body panels and were hand built. I’ve never seen one before. It is stunning. A 1959 Cadillac Hearse Interceptor Cool Plymouth wagon E34 M5 R16 and a Beetle SS Camaro Very original Mini One for the tractor fans: Chamberlain Type 40K GTS Monaro Ford Fairmont 2CV (the OH wants one of these) White Duster Kenmeri GTR: they only built 197 of these but it wasn’t the rarest car there. Seriously! I didn’t know these existed until today and now I’ve seen 2! How can you not love this? Wheelies bars and 80’s graphics. Awesome! Two tonner tray ute (although it may not actually be able to carry two tonnes) Traction Avant Chrazy Chrysler: almost but not quite a lowrider Triumph Mayflower Ute!!!! Rarest car there (probably). They only made 150 in Australia from modified CKD kits. Very nice Alfa GT Falcon Torino Mini Mini (good luck getting that registered here) If this really is a Turbo then I bet it lives up to the plate Mazda Cosmo This provided my moment of the show: I was following along behind three older blokes, one of whom said “and they know nothing about cars. They have to google everything.”. When they got to this one says “What is it?” another one replies “Says Borward Isabella on the badges. Oh yeah, they’re Russian.”. Zephyr ute Very nice Jaguar Capri Ghia

AMC Hornet SST SC360. If this is genuine (and I’m not sure because the badges look wrong) then it has a 5.9 litre V8 and will get to 60 in 6.7 seconds! VW 412 Datsun Fairlady Another Pantera! FC and Lightweight Huge Buick wagon Very nice Goat Challenger T/A Flames Very clean Ghia Very pretty Fiat RX4 Ro80 Ratty Buick Non-ratty Beetle Of the half dozen or so rods there this was my favourite A very patriotic paint job (if you are American) Fiat 132 and an Alfa And finally the car of the show. This was originally a yellow police car, before being turned in to a replica Interceptor. And the reg number really is MFP.

Great pictures and a nice selection! got to say that Triumph Mayflower ute is the oddest looking thing ive ever seen, looks home made! Did you not get any pictures of the white Holden with the supercharger sticking out the bonnet, the one next to the Cadillac hearse?

Always a treat to see your show threads. What an eclectic group of eccentricities and some real gems in there.

Some very cool Aussie cars here, thanks for taking me for "a trip down memory lane". Ive actually been in some of them too!
I grew up in Oz, as in Perth W.A. My parents took us there in 1973, so i remember all the old 60's/70's cars. We used to sit at bus stops(as kids) an watch all the cars drive by, an try to name all the models. My older brother, had an EJ Holden sedan, with a 192 engine in it(i think?) he also had a HT Holden panel van, decked out like they did in the 70's. My dad had loads of early Fords...my mate was driving at 15, he had a HR Holden, then he bought not one, but 2 Leyland P76's. I returned to England when i was 16, but went back out to Auss, twice in the 80's. My 1st car was a bright yellow HG Holden Kingswood Sedan, it had a 186S engine in it, mag wheels, twin chrome ehausts. Then i bought a Gold HQ Holden Station wagon. One of my daughters was born there, so shes an Aussie...but she hasnt been back there in over 30 years now! A great time in my life, an never will i forget all those cool 70's Aussie cars, that were a big part of my mispent youth. Cheers Paul........................very much a Pommie now!

Thanks for all the replies. The biggest problem with the show is there are a lot of very nice and very interesting cars there, so choosing which ones to put in a post is really quite hard Great pictures and a nice selection! got to say that Triumph Mayflower ute is the oddest looking thing ive ever seen, looks home made! Did you not get any pictures of the white Holden with the supercharger sticking out the bonnet, the one next to the Cadillac hearse? AFAIK the Mayflower utes were made from CKD saloon kits, which explains the homemade appearance! And yes, I did take a couple of pics of the white Commodore. Here you go.

Any pictures of that mercedes in the background? No, sorry. It was LS swapped and had exhaust headers that came forwards and then down because the bay was so small. Looked like they’d also converted to rack and pinion because there was no sign of a steering box.

That’s a quirky little thing. Kind of looks like a Lancia Fulvia/Jensen Interceptor love child.
