One of my uncles has offered me his golf gti A convertible model in dark metallic brown Apparently it has a seized engine and is badged as a rabbit , although it is a uk registered car from new in rhd I know nothing about these cars , I never knew he owned it either! It’s been left on a tarmaced driveway for two years And it’s mine if I collect it Anything I should check bodywork wise?? And where in the underbody should I check And more importantly can engines still be had for these? Have a couple of pics , cheers Danny

A brown gti, means it should be a rather early one.
Nice thing with vw's is you can stick pretty much any engine you want innit from the vw range & someone will sell all the stuff required.
It shouldn't be too rusty as they were better rust proofed than the hatch.
To a point (depending on rareness and spec) some cars do better money 100% stock. But vw's are never actually that great stock (don't let anyone tell you otherwise lol)
Just to add... If you want some cream Porsche teleidails (look on my mk2 thread), they are for sale lol

Grab the opportunity with both hands. We have had our clipper cabrio for 6 years now, been our daily driver on and off for the last 6 years, let us down only once with a flat battery. Expect it to need a new roof after being sat that long, arches and inner arches on mine have started to get crusty but it has been used and absued over the last 6 years, over 30k miles in that time. Ours is the 1.8 carb model and is plenty enough power to have some fun and annoy some modern cars!

Buy it , if you don't like it someone will rip your hand off for it . Good fun cars that don't have to be expensive. And the more rare odder ones in different colours are in demand.

It’s free. I’d get it and then break it, get another one off the record.

Worth getting even if just to sell on. Will be ripe for a VW enthusiast to do an engine transplant on if the engine is shot. If it’s a small bumper model it should do alright.

Don't think for too long. Wheels alone are worth decent money

Make some space, give it 12 months ticket and sell it in spring should see you a couple of grand. Gl will be pretty much bomb proof (assuming its a 1.5) with only the crappy 1b pierburg carb to give you any grief. Give me a shout if you want any bits as I broke a virtually identical one last year.

A polo 1.4 16v or polo 1.6gti engine would go well in that

That doesn't look bad at all! Nice colour, and I kinda prefer them in GL spec to GTI. As above, those Borbet Cs are worth a few hundred. Would help fund an engine anyway!
