a great start to another awesome Grumpy project...bookmarked here too!
I use the freezer bags too...and for smaller parts, I am experimenting with those plastic organizer boxes you get most anywhere. they have adjustable compartments and see through tops. I just cut slips of paper and put them in with the parts....

Just wait til they see the Subaru WRX motor! Ooooh! Wonder if a Subaru and 4WD would fit a Jowett. That would be a wolf in sheep's clothing Its been thought about - lots of times but yet to be executed I have no end of Jowett projects that could be suited to the task - currently don't have the time though

I'd never seen a Javelin in the flesh until about 10 years ago at a local school fete. They're a very pretty car, and I really hadn't expected to see a flat four in the front - I knew literally nothing about them!

one of my old customers used to regularly muse over shoving a subaru lump into his javelin. don't know if he ever did though.

So I now have the car stripped with exception of the bonnet and can start to remove the paint off the panels Ideally I want to ensure paint coverage over the sill step edge So the ply floor infill panel was removed General inspection of the structure of the car raised a few issues initially Sheets of fibreglass adjacent to structural areas - like 'B' posts - hopefully it's isolated Hang on - it's not isolated - this is the nearside A post So some making good to do - but not really an issue Just getting to grips with the task and I find this in the offside rear inner wing Like wise in the nearside too Ho - hmmmm Dig a bit further Net result 5.3 kilos of fibreglass mat & resin plastered to the rear inner wings, B posts, A posts, bulkhead & inner sills - all structural members of the cars bodyshell - I'd better call the client then

Oh dear what's the likely prognosis? repair or replace? Hopefully the owner is in a position to consider whichever it may be. Fingers crossed. At least it's with the man who can!

another de-bodgery thread , they feed the dark side of our psyche...just as much as shiny side that revels at the finished product. unfortunate discovery nonetheless.

Really can't bring myself to 'like' the above update... I really should given the approach and work involved (by you), but for someone to go to that level of fireglass application takes some commitment and it isn't a 'likeable' offence... On the odd chance you're having withdrawal symptoms by the time of the NEC, feel free to let me know - in return for that coffee run I'll point you in the direction of plenty more that needs breaking out The only difference being is that your findings were seemingly applied with a careful hand to conceal the act (perhaps making it even more of a crime), my example appears to have been emptied out of a bucket in it's application with no attempt to disguise its presence

So there is only one way to resolve the issues found And that is properly - which means that the body now needs to come off the chassis - lots of notes & reference images later And the strip down can commence Note the lump of fibreglass wedged in the top of the nearside A post All outer panels with exception of the bulkhead are alloy and I plan to send them to one stripping company that I can trust for the paint removal 'Envirostrip' at Tamworth - however there is hitch - the tank for alloy dipping is restrictive in size due H & S regulations hence the bonnet & rear shroud are too large for tank dipping hence I have no choice but do these by hand Yes all 12 coats of paint So I left the rear shroud panel & bonnet on the car in order to undertake the stripping process otherwise it would have be quite awkward if they were loose panels on stands that I had to chase around the workshop More progress updates to follow over the weekend

I regularly look over this board and particularly enjoy Grumpynortherners posts because I have grown up with Jowett’s due to my dad owning them. Then a few days back to my total surprise my dad’s car is actually featured on here! Its looking like a tough job, but will be great to see this cars progress here and can’t wait to see it done.

I'm amazed at his work rate. With me that would have involved a lot of sighing, looking out the window at the drizzle, drinking lemon tea and listening to Leonard Cohen's greatest hits. Then I would start work VERY SLOOOOOWLY. He is a marvel.
