Look, I know this is a bit anal, but the introductions to the latest pages have some grating errors in spelling or grammar. Being an editor it gets to me more than it ought to, but as an example "we're" is the shortened version of "WE ARE" and not "WERE". SORRY. I cannot help myself.

I do see your point on this, It can be difficult to read sometimes, but we should make allowances because: A) some people are dyslexic ( or any other form of literary syndrome ) B) some people post using their phones, which can simply 'auto correct' mistakenly, for example, a correct spelling of 'we're' could be altered to 'were' without the posters knowledge. C) people make mistakes sometimes.
We are not all perfect, I try to spell everything correctly, I try to make sure my grammar is up to scratch, but I make mistakes. I don't always proof read my posts, sometimes, if I have time, after I have posted something, I notice a spelling mistake and I edit it to correct it, but not always. I have a habit of not using capital letters in the right places, because when I type quickly, I'm 'off on one' and just flying along my keyboard. But to be fair, my 'written' word is the same, I put capital letters in the middle of words sometimes because that's just the way my hand flows in that word at that time...
And, to point out terrible spelling and grammar mistakes in someones post is a little rude, you must know what they mean... maybe that person is struggling with dyslexia or something along those lines, and comments like that can set someone back aways...
I am glad you didn't 'name and shame' anyone, but lets have a little 'give' yes?
The internet has opened us up to a host of illiterate and ignorant fools...but it has also become a tool for those less able to reach a wider audience, and to ridicule bad spelling and grammar would be demoralising to those people and I for one would be discouraged from posting again. . .

Unless really poor, it's honestly the content that matters to me!

I agree that it is the content that really matters here not the spelling or grammar.
The only one that really bugs me is using brought when they mean bought.
I have no idea why it bugs me so much but it does, however I would never dream of bringing it up on someones thread, as said I just get on with enjoying the rest of the content that someone has taken the time to write down for me to read for free.
It is perhaps why this forum is such a good place to spend time, for the most part everyone is friendly and we all get along famously even when we don't agree on everything the end goal is the same, Love for cool old cars.
Remember dudes, be excellent to each other!

Spelling and grammar are important, but not everybody has been taught them. But if everybody read through their text before pressing post, many of the more common faults would be eliminated.
This is an internet forum, and so nothing is particularly important; some posts are so incomprehensible that I just move on to the next one.

reeeeeeealy? yes i know there are one or two too many e's in there but perhaps someone needs to get out a little more? some contributors posts take a little deciphering on occasions but i certainly wouldn't complain unless it was totally incomprehensible. none of us are perfect and assuming its not grammatically incorrect i would like to mix "harsh" and "petty" in the same sentence.

I notice the same issues (often subconciously) - once even spent a while looking at a pub menu to find what was "wrong" before I realised they had used "Stake" not "Steak". One here there are 2 members in particular that I love to see updates from, 1 would loose points on a grammar & spelling forum, the other is amazing but has a "quirk" and always spells a particular word wrong. In all cases it's the content that's important their use of English. If I'm using a laptop I can spell-check, if I'm on a tablet or mobile it's easier to just post and expect readers to understand why I didn't proof-read before posting. Live & let live, life's too short photo as penance for my not-very-forum-like thoughts

I think the original point was that the mistakes were in 'official' pages not general posts.
SPAG (Spelling Punctuation And Grammar) does bother me and in extreme cases make posts difficult to read, although the human brain is very good at deciphering bad spelling. It doesn't harm to proof read a post, particularly if it's a long post.
At school English was never a strong point but one of my first jobs was as an IT Engineer for a company that did typesetting software some of it obviously rubbed off. I'm now an apprenticeship assessor/coach and have to read a lot of assignments, and I've become much more sensitive to it.
One that always annoys me is break instead of brake, or 'me/I and xxx' instead of 'xxx and me/i'.

Yep, sorry guys. "My bad" I think is the saying. Yes, I was actually referring to the Official pages. But now I feel bad about that too, as nobody is getting paid to do the work on here. Everyone is a volunteer I assume ? However, I can't help my pedantry any more than somebody who's dyslexic can help their own infliction. I'll try to be more tolerant. I wouldn't be inclined to be personal in open threads. That's why I posted a separate one. By the way, I'm off at the moment following major surgery so hoping to contribute more to this forum - assuming I'm forgiven for my indiscretion. 1 quick query : can I assume that by bookmarking a thread I will receive emailed notification of replies ?
Cheers Andy G

I'm a bit of a pedant too Andy G. Bad spelling and grammar annoy the hell out of me especially at work where if a document goes out with errors in it the whole company is made to look foolish. When reading American literature I even catch myself subconsciously translating into English sometimes. On internet forums such as this one I try to cut people some slack as the saying goes for a number of reasons. Some people just don't know any better because they've never been taught properly, some will have learning disabilities, and many will have English as a second or even third language. That said there is definitely a case to be made for proofreading one's work before posting. Making a mistake because one doesn't know any better may be excused but making the same mistake because of carelessness is entirely different and should be avoided. P.S. Don't trust the spellcheck all the time. It might be US not English.
