Whilst idling around on that there eBay I found this
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1988-Toyota-town-ace-super-extra-8-seater-classic-retro-camper-day-van/202582384393
Always had a bit of a thing for these, and I ended up having a think what I'd actually do to one.
Now they aren't such a known quantity as a VW Type2 or T25 so not as much off the shelf and common knowledge is available. However I think you could have a good go at one. I'm sure there is some Toyota parts bin stuff available.
For me first off would be all cosmetics.
Smoothed door handles, remove that antenna and the big wing mirror.
Clean up the paint where I could and then drop over some suitably rad 90's wheels. Some Azev Type B would seem to do the job:
For the method of drop the "easy" answer would be to go for air, there doesn't look to be much clearance under that arch when it is low so a bit of movable suspension could well be in order. Or a more modest drop rather than a total slam. I think I'd be aiming to tuck the rears for sure though as the arch is that little bit lower.
Ultimately I'd like it painted. Maybe keep the two tone with perhaps a graphic running the length of the van in line with the front "grill" to give it a kind of wrap around look.
I'll try and bust out photoshop later in the week and have a stab at putting that lot together.
What would you do to it?
