Went to have a good look at a Ford Ecoboost V6 on Thursday. Like the look of it and what can be done. Not looking to get into a heavily modified engine as this will cost £££'s and the vehicle it'll be transplanted into is light and compact. Not as light as a Caterham, but 350+bhp should be quite satisfactory.
Oh, and this is the wife's car......!!!!

My first sergestion would have been the 3.0 jag V6 from the s-type and X-type as well but you say it's to big? In the X-type it's mounted transverse so I wouldn't of thought that would have been that big and there cheap as chips Other options on V6 would be fords mondeo st Alfa Land Rover freelander/MG ZS Nissan 350 Toyota do one that lotus use or Lexus do a V6 As for power I'm sure the jag is 240bhp and with good torque the MG is only 180bhp mondeo is 220 And there all quad cam set up so I'm guessing if ones to big there all to big Again I have no idea what your putting this in so I don't know if a straight 6 is also to big Which means the only option is a highly tuned 4 pot of some sorts or maybe a 5 pot The engine that Porsche binned and Ford developed into the Mondeo i think grew into one of the best engines of its time. Noble i believe even put 2 turbos on it and got in excess of 350bhp out of it for the M12. Ive seen an Escort with a 2.5 V6 in it with an adapter plate to fit a Ford RWD bell housing and gearbox, but i think i have seen that an MX-5 bell housing and gearbox may fit with obvious adaptions. All the very best, Geoff.

BMW M52/M54 are strong candidates in my eyes. Relatively compact, light compared to a lot of V8's, strong torque curve, and if you want big power figures they turbo well up past the 450bhp mark.
The best part of all, people aren't 'that' interested in them, so its still possible to pick them up relatively cheap.

If you want 350hp then have. A look at the LM7 5.3 LS truck motor. Under $1000 for a low mileage one - get the later gen3/4 hybrid with the better rods- throw in a Sloppy stage 2 cam and springs, TBSS manifold and some long tubes and you are going to be at 330whp ish. Your T5 probably isn’t going to survive so sell it and get an AD5 from a solstice and the adapter kit to make it fit and you are probably into the drive train for $2500. Need more? Chinese Choo Choo, regap the rings and either decap the stock injectors or buy the 120 ones from Snake Eater performance and you are good for a ‘reliable’ 500whp plus. Run the stock computer and use HP tuners Shipping the engine from the US is going to cost but not a fortune. Best bit is that the LS is compact and probably not a huge difference in weight to the Essex. Or just go a K Series Honda and turbo. What ever sounds like an interesting project. P.

Mercedes V6 is a nice engine and comes with a good auto gearbox.
The 430 and 500 Mercedes engines are also good if you have the room.
You could always use a Rover V8 as there are still lots available.

The Cologne V6 is the natural choice, successor to the Essex. The Essex V6 was in production from 1966 onward, production of the Cologne V6 started in '65.
