Hi,
looking to do a swap in my Mercedes w115. It’s currently running a m115 engine but it’s low on compression. So I’ve got a few choices.
1) Get a om616 and fit that, but that’s about 70hp engine and currently I’ve got 110hp from my m115 engine so that’s the only thing putting me off. The om616 are too sluggish
2) M110 2.8 k jetronic. Simple fit apart from the struts in the engine bay. This engine came in the later Mercedes so should bolt straight in. Only issue I have with this is will my currently 4 speed manual gearbox work with it?
3) M104 3litre k jetronic. Again would need a gearbox with this. Does anyone know if the gearbox off the 4 speed manual will fit the M104?
Finally get a w202 c250d manual and swap that over. That with be a OM605 engine with a 5 speed manual box.
Want to stick to Mercedes engine but am Open to recommendstion/advice

The M110 is a lovely smooth engine, but juicy and not hugely quick. Well, that was the case in my old G Wagen.

om605 FTW, with a manual pump OM605 with the normal pump is still a fine lump IMHO! Thus speaks a previous C250TD owner..albeit with the 5 speed auto box.

The engines in W114/W115s are vertically mounted while the later engines and gearboxes Eg in W123, W124, W202 are slanted. Ie M110 from W123, M103, M104, OM60x. So I think you would have to use the matching gearbox. FWIW I have fitted the manual gearbox from a W202 C250DT which attaches to the slanted OM60x engines and it fits as if it belonged there. You may have to notch and reinforce the front member to fit it in.

You’d be better of looking at non-Merc options. W115 engine bays are tight, and all the later Merc motors are fairly mediocre with the exception of the 606 that doesn’t fit without a lot of chopping.

The M110 drinks more than a big block chevy, and is a gutless pig. Forget that. The simplest swap is a m103 3.0 6cyl, easy to fit and wire, and will give you around 185hp with a free flow exhaust. don't go for an m104 because the wiring harness will give you nightmares. Been there, done that.

I hope you are still researching this.
If you go for a 603,605 or 606 OM Diesel, try to modify it with a manual injector pump. When I looked at this for my W114, the wiring was awful, desptie the assistance of an engineer with a Rainman level of Merc knowledge.
I have given up on the diesel and Merc petrol lark and am looking into using a Lexus LS400 V8, running LPG.
It is a well reserched engine for swaps, reknown for strength with lots of market products in kodified harnesses etc. I am sure it will need some bay rejigging.
And a vote for the BMW 330D M57 engine. Oh yus! Great engine, great manual gearbox with with nuclear torque.
Good luck!

The M110 is a lovely smooth engine, but juicy and not hugely quick. Well, that was the case in my old G Wagen. Surely the G-Wagen is the main cause of "juicy and not very quick"......? Fairly heavy old brick. Nick
