Hi Folks! i have a 99 B2500 pick up truck, i am looking to mildly change/modify the front grille and also try for a twin headlight conversion. looking at the E36 Compact, i think it could be done, however, am i walking into a minefield, what with the stories you hear about a bulb going on some of these modern cars and the brain shutting half the county down until you re-programme it?
well, i found an old Leyland front grille, but i have now had problems with my poxy phone! lost most of the pic's! but you should get the idea from these few. obviously i will need to cut the grille down, but i am working on some BMW lights for def'. more effort will be made!
The present lights are 11 inches across the front 2 inches deep, 5.5 inches high but obviously i can go IN a bit more towards the middle of the grille, but i must keep the separate indicators, and maybe incorporate some of the plastic grille in between if at all poss?
was offered these, and they look as though they could fit? even though i would have to lose the trucks indicators? just had a look on the net, and it would probably be an easier job to use twin headlights from a mk3 Cortina and incorporate the backing plate as well? maybe Jaguar XJ6/XJ40 Twin Headlight Units? i am open to suggestions, but, either way, something will be happening very soon!!
i like it! i think this could be the direction to head in, i may be able to use the small grille sections as well, obviously not the centre piece, i will place an ad in the wanted section unless anyone can help out now?
well, it's looking good, got my finger in some bits and bobs, hoping to turn this around quickly! cheers guys for all the feedback, any other ideas or possible parts, please let me know. anything i don't use will be useful in the very near future!
Because i would have to cut part of the wing away, plus shape/make some form of seal around the light unit, and if later, i damaged the front for what ever reason, i wold have to do the same for the next wing, rather than a bolt on and go option. i like the simpler idea, especially when you can weld a plate or two behind where the original lights were/would be, and then that way, it's a lot simpler to modify. i don't have my 2nd car on the road yet, so i am looking for a weekend/long weekend fitment option/idea at the moment.
Freezing my nuts off today! so just made a couple of templates, had another measure up, going to get stuck in tomorrow (Friday) hoping to get both sides finished in time to get to the garage and have them lined up properly. Height-wise it's a perfect fit, and after taking the plastic trim from under the headlights, it should line up well. just debating on cutting shaping and bending the metal grille or sticking with the Mazda one, but it will be cut down quite a bit. time will tell. Watch this space! (famous last words.......)
