Mercedes S124 E200 Automatic - 7 Seat Estate
One Family Owner Since New (23 Years)
Rare White with Anthracite Cloth Interior
136k Miles - Low for an 124 E Class
I needed an estate a few weeks back to help a family member move some things, so purchased this from a chap in London. He bought the car brand new and has been in his family ever since (number of owners is 3, as it has been in his wife and son's name during ownership).
It needed a good clean, which has been done. I have replaced both front indicator units as they were broken, and sourced an original set of W124 wheel trims as it was on steelies. Also replaced the front wiper blade.
Mechanically sound - starts first turn of the key. Idles in the correct manner. No leaks. No overheating.
Gearbox is how a Mercedes of this era should be - with smooth and effortless changes. Pulls well in every gear.
Suspension is decent, with no knocks or bangs. Like my 190 for sale, these iron out all bumps in the road and give a ride no modern car can match.
136k miles which isn't even running in for one of these! Low miles compared to others for sale (most have done 200k+, and still running strong).
However, it failed it's MOT today on the rear brake - Exact failure: Nearside Rear Service brake has no recorded effort at a wheel (1.2.1 (a) (ii))
Basically, it needs a new brake caliper on near-side rear. MOT place has quoted me between £250 and £300 to have the work completed.
Therefore, it's £700 as it is (and you do the work yourself and get it MOTd). Or for £950, I will get the work completed by the garage and it will come with a full 12 Month MOT.
This is the only thing it failed the MOT on, and the rest were advisories which will may addressing by the next MOT. No showstoppers, and these are things you can can get as and when.
If you are handy with a spanner and not too far from Bracknell, you can complete the work yourself and there is a free re-test within 10 days I believe. A new caliper from Euro Car Parts is around £125 with their current Xmas promotion, so if you can save the labour fee, then it brings the cost down a fair bit.
In decent order for the year, but front wings have the usual corrosion, as well as the rear tail gate. There are various marks, blemishes, stone chips and a few dents as to be expected for the age. A couple of other rust marks on the body, but cleans up well. Bumpers have a few scuffs. OSR light cluster has been taped up. Repair the tailgate and and possibly replace the front wings, and this will enhance it's appearance.
Interior is in good condition, with no rips or tears. The interior has aged well, again a testament to the solid Benz build quality of the time. Passenger front window does not work (seems to have come of it's runner, as you can hear the motor). No stereo. Remote central locking does not work (has to be locked manually). Everything else appears to be in good working order, and there are no warning lights on the dashboard cluster.
Having said that, it is perfectly usable as it is (once MOT'd) and will no doubt provide many more years of reliable service. I just don't have the space or need for it anymore, so I am selling this (and my 190 / E39 M5) to free up space and funds.
Comes with: 1 x Key, Current MOT Certificate, MOT History Printout, V5 Logbook, Folder of Bills & Receipts.
