I've got a little GoPro camera and have started going out and getting some video footage of my car driving about. I've got the standard GoPro Quik editor, which is borderline ok at trimming the unwanted bits off the ends of a video, and with some patience I think I can cut parts out of the middle. What does everyone else use? (preferably free!) I'm not into making great elaborate movies, just editing footage I get from the car to something I find interesting and watchable, and some other more techy uses

As you know, I use iMovie. It's not perfect but with practice it's not bad at all. One tip I can give is to look more at the frame rate and resolution. These can have a big impact on how a video comes across. I did watch a few videos as a how-to, but I forgot the links! In short: -Go with a decent quality and a low frame rate. The lower frame rate makes it look more 'film like' and less GoPro footage-like. High frame rates are good for if you want to slow-mo stuff, but let's be honest, we don't really do that . 4k and 24fps is what I set mine to. -The above is part of the ProTuner in a GoPro. If I come across a PC video editor, I'll let you know.

I think I'm set on 30fps, and yeah I think I get what you mean about how the footage comes across, periodically it jerks like it's compensating the frame rates? There's a few things I'd like to do which require the high frame rates for slo-mo, nothing fancy, just techy stuff on the underside of my cars I did download the GoPro 'Studio' editor shortly after posting my question, never knew it existed! It has plenty of features that were easy to use, and I think I made a good job of splicing clips together.

Could well have beaten me to it here as I'm reasonably sure that this is what I use at work (was going to check on my works laptop tomorrow as I don't have it here). I tend to use the GoPro to film stuff then cut out bits of interest to play back at slow speed so I can see what's going on. The GoPro editor I downloaded from the GoPro website is good enough for me.
