Ive a b230 engine in my bmw, its got the old old dish type core plugs in it, its all been rebuilt. I did notice when bleeding the coolant system it didnt want to take on much water, but i filled the rad from the top hose, and it seemed ok , heater was hot etc.
SO it went on the rollers, did one power run and as it was going i noticed the header tank was filling up, and then it blew a core plug. On the exhaust side all core plugs had moved, on the inlet one had pushed out and the others looks fine.
On inspection, ive found the stat was in the wrong way around. I am also thinking that if it was in the wrong way around then the system coulnd not have bled properly. Could this be the cause of the problem, i am being a bit paranoid on this one. I'm hoping there isnt any damage to the motor.
thanks

Has the stat got a bypass hole in it ? If not id drill a hole or two in it. Obviously you've ended up with an airlock in it some how so stick the plugs back in and fill it carefully and see how it goes next time.

Has the stat got a bypass hole in it? yeah, it should do. Hole at the top, in the right way round and it should bleed up on it's own really. Have you got a header tank? What rad is fitted?

right ok... Its got a bmw m3 ally rad on it, vw polo expansion bottle, the expansion is on a T on the long metal pipe that goes from the pump to the matrix. Also there is a little pipe that goes from top of the rad to the expansion...
SO it sounds liek its airlocked and then pushed the plugs out. I wonder if its damaged it at all ...
