I know the 989 is water proof, the 534 i think it a high build primer.
Do i need to put 989 on first or will 534 just cover bare steal and seal it like the 989?
thanks

If you go on line, you can find the material data sheets that answer your questions. Here is one of them www.hbbody.com.gr/product/index.php?pid=138From what I can tell it is happy to be applied Direct to Metal or over polyester fillers. My 3 step routine is: 1 Epoxy primer on bare metal ( sand with 80 grit before next layer)You could leave the car in the rain at this point. 2 Fillers or any sort on top of epoxy; usually polyesters in my experience ( start shaping with 80 grit and finish with 400) Do not get the car wet at this point 3 Urethane sealer as last coat before paint. (Sanded to 600 before paint)Urethane sealer can be applied and sanded to 600 or shot just before paint and in what is known as wet-on -wet. Urethane is fine to get wet. As a matter of fact I wet the car down after wet sanding to 600 to observe the reflections and find flaws. A useful thing to do if you are new to car painting is to load your gun up with water and have a go at painting the car with water. This will let you work out the order of application, how to move around the car and get to difficult parts and get an overall feel for what it is like to shoot each panel. You might be surprised at how heavy the gun gets when you are reaching way over the roof or bonnet panels. The ache from your arm messes with your concentration and you make a mistake that pisses you off and causes you to make more mistakes and so on.... By the way, painting "processes" are very confusing what with all the chemistries and formulations. So find one you like and stick with it.

first thanks for the reply.
I saw the data sheet, but i don't understand a lot of it, and was why i asked here.
step 2: i have been told in the past its ok to wet sand filler, but i don't like that, but it is easier from the little experience i have.
I have painted a car before, it was a mini van inside and out, it came out really good, but it was in my mates body shop and he told me step by step at teh time what to do. Its the experience of the products and the prep I'm struggling with. But ill learn.
Ill do as you say, what type of urethane sealer do you use?
thankyou again!

Glassurit Chromate Epoxy on bare metal Then Evercoat Body fill Then Evercoat Featherfill Plyester high build Then Glasurit Surfacer Then paint. In this case PPG I hate bodywork! At least the paind side of it!
